    Comments about Window, The:

Based on a story by one of the 3 fathers of Noir, Cornell Woolrich (REAR WINDOW, BRIDE WORE BLACK) this is a great gritty thriller about a kid with a wild imagination who is always telling tall tales... who witnesses a murder in his tenement apartment building and no one will believe him. Keeps ratcheting up the suspense! Beautifully shot, great acting, shot on location in NYC. I wish they would have called Eddie Muller to do a commentary track, but you can't have everything.

      Comments about Window, The:

This is a very clean transfer to DVD of a classic film noir from the late 40's that is best seen on the big screen (like all films) yet holds up well on a small screen as well. What's great is to see this gem on DVD format as it has not been available before now.

          Comments about Window, The:

... this is a great movie! the acting is first rate, with simple, believable characters - even the obviously creepy bad guys. cinematography is gorgeous, setting the stage for some noir-ish suspense. Driscoll stands out in particular; it's a shame what happened to him.
DVD is very good: when you can see the sweat dripping off the actors' faces, you know it's gonna be one of those nights. audio is very clear

          Comments about Window, The:

Excellent film noir. Great 1940's New York City location photography. Simple, suspenseful tale well-told and acted. Last time I saw this was on a not-to-good VHS. The Warner Archive DVD-R is excellent quality. I dO wish there are some added features to recommend(commentary, trailer, etc), but there are none. Still worth while.

            Comments about Window, The:

I had heard a lot about this movie for years, and had always been interested in seeing it. I took my chance and bought it (not available for rental), and was VERY impressed! The cinematography and atmosphere give this almost a docudrama feel to it, and as it is a thriller, is all the more powerful. I was impressed by the acting – of poor Bobby Driscoll (who had a very sad fate in real life) as the boy whose reputation for telling tall tales gets him into more trouble than he could have imagined, and by Arthur Kennedy as the boy's father. As this was filmed in 1949, I imagine that Mr. Kennedy was appearing on Broadway in "Death of a Salesman" around the same time.
Very good post-World War II thriller.
