Why Be Good?

"Why be good when it's so much more thrilling to be bad?" asked the ad campaign for this slightly naughty and oh-so-knowing silent-movie celebration of the flapper era.

      Comments about Why Be Good?:

Bless the Movie Restoration Magicians at Warner Archive. Just watched this delightful Colleen Moore film WHY BE GOOD? from 1929. Adorable Colleen is a young woman who loves life and parties. She is a championship dancer and man can she dance!. She catches the eye of Rich guy Neil Hamilton. If Hamilton looks familiar, he should, He played Commissioner Gordon on the t.v. show Batman in the 60s!. Working Girl and free spirit Colleen falls for this handsome and witty fellow. And he falls for her in a BIG way. Little does Colleen know, Neil is the son of the boss at the Department store she works at. Complications ensue and a happy ending awaits the couple. If you like a fast-paced, highly entertaining romance with touches of comedy, this film fits the bill. Colleen lights up the screen with her personality and spirit. The transfer is nothing short of superb. Crystal clear image that is free of any blemishes. Although silent, the jazzy score with occasional sound effects enhances the entire viewing experience. Highest recommendation if you are a Silent Film Fan or want to know how great a Silent film can be. Grab this dvd now.

        Comments about Why Be Good?:

It's a delightful, entertaining movie that really captures the spirit of the Roaring '20s. However, the WB Archive encryption system means it won't play in my 2 year old Blueray player. I've viewed it on my Mac, but it's very disappointing that I can't see it on the bigger screen. Oddly enough, the talk I've seen online about this says that it will play in DVD players but not computers. Go figure.
