Comments about WAC Double Features: Girl Missing/Illicit:

Illicit, is an example of pre code movies which was "spicey" in it's day, but not today.
A good movie tho and good acting from Barbara Stanwyck.

I liked "Girl Missing", more. Also good acting from Glenda Farrell, Ben Lyon, Lyle Talbot and Guy Kibbee. If you like mystery movies I think you will like this one.

Comments about WAC Double Features: Girl Missing/Illicit:

'Girl Missing' is a fantastic movie, fast-paced, with a good script and enjoyable characters. Glenda Farrell is in fine form, playing a variation of the gold digger character she played in many other movies, and you can see a bit of her later Torchy Blane character too. But i think Mary Brian is the real star here. She's almost distractingly gorgeous in this. Makes me wish she did more of these kinds of movies.

My 5-star rating is for 'Girl Missing', and that movie is why i bought the DVD set. 'Illicit' was a nice free bonus, and Barbara Stanwyck's acting is really good in it, but i felt the movie itself was a bit of a chore to get through - Lots of static scenes of characters standing around talking, and not saying anything particularly interesting. James Rennie seemed miscast.

i thought the audio / video quality was fine. The movies aren't perfectly restored, but they are watchable.

Comments about WAC Double Features: Girl Missing/Illicit:

              Illicit:
Early Barbara Stanwyck is hit or miss for me, ant this one isn't one of her stronger performances. It's presented as a serious illustration of how marriage can take the fun out of life. Since it's pre-1934, however, it's not exactly a sterile environment.
              Girl Missing:
Glenda Farrell and Mary Brian are a hoot as two gold-diggers who up-end a peer, make a mint, and catch some men, not necessarily in that order.

DVD quality is great: audio and visual are clear.

illicit is mostly a drama, girl missing a comedy mystery. they are both great examples of the pre-code era.
