    Comments about Vivacious Lady:

This movie was released in 1938, then re-released in 1941 after the two leads each won Academy Awards that year (Ginger for "Kitty Foyle" and James for "The Philadelphia Story," both from 1940).

It's a great chance to see these two stars together in a largely forgotten screwball comedy gem. Ginger was just as good in her non-musical films as she was opposite Astaire in all the musicals.

The premise is silly, but then isn't that the case in most screwball comedies? The stars carry it off with ease. This movie also features a host of memorable character actors, each having a moment or two (or three) to shine: Charles Coburn, Jack Carson, Beulah Bondi, Hattie McDaniel, Grady Sutton, and Franklin Pangborn. And solid support from Frances Mercer and James Ellison.

In particular, there is a fight scene between Ginger Rogers and Frances Mercer that left me in stitches.

As far as the quality of the DVD, the print is in decent shape. Mostly sharp details and solid black levels. Some scratches and pops here and there, but nothing terribly distracting, I'm happy to say.

Well worth the price, and I'm so glad this was released via the Warner Archive!
