      ooh la low!

      Comments about Victor/Victoria (BD)(MOD):

It wants to be sophisticated, but remains a tacky exercise in Blake Edwards comedy. There is no inept inspector bumbling around, but the humor stays on the same level. Supposedly gay references want to be naughty, but just induce snickers of disbelief. Robert Peston is fine, but the leads just plod along. The main thesis of Julie Andrews as a female playing a man in drag is just absurd. Garner's attraction/repulson to her/him is moronic, and his resultant traumas drag the thing on for far too long. I liked it, with reservations, when it was new. Now, many similar films have succeeded where the one failed. At least, it's better than Edward's S.O.B.

      Clever Ooh-la-la Farce

          Comments about Victor/Victoria (BD)(MOD):

Clever concept, great cast, it attempts sophistication, but goes on far too long. Would be far better if it was a half hour shorter. Robert Preston and Leslie Ann Warren are great as way 'over the top' entertainers, but Julie Andrews is not remotely believable as a cross dressing cabaret performer, and her supposedly naughty romance with James Garner is too slowly developed. It is farce that screams out "risqué" continually, but it's really just a very conventional little trifle, blown way out of proportion.

              Comments about Victor/Victoria (BD)(MOD):

              To Whom it May Concern:

I just purchased the blu-ray of Victor/Victoria, and I'm SO glad it's been finally released on blu-ray. The film is just brilliant Blake Edwards farce at its finest.

However, there is an error. I have watched this movie literally hundreds of times in the past 34 years, and know it like the back of my hand. During the "Shady Dame from Seville" scene, there is a section that is inadvertently repeated. During a dance interlude with her backup dancers, where Victoria weaves in and out of each of them before the matador bids her good bye on the fountain and she adjusts her cleavage, on the blu-ray, the kiss-off from the matador on the fountain is omitted, and instead, the end of the number, where she trills some scales while listing on her line of backup dancers, is repeated. I thought that the blu-ray was wrong, and so to test it, I put in my DVD of Victor/Victoria and ran the scene from the DVD...and the DVD has the correct sequence.

Is there any way you could look at this and correct it? I'm certain Dame Julie Andrews would not want her work or, most importantly, the work of her late husband, the incredible Blake Edwards, to have been altered in any way, however inadvertently.

Thank you, and thank you again for releasing this classic in Hi-Def. Should you correct the error and re-released it in is intended form, I will gladly repurchase this blu-ray again.
