Comments about Valley of Gwangi, The:

Gwangi is one of Harryhausen's best, having germinated in Willis O'Brien's mind since the 1940s. It took Harryhausen to get this turn of the century mix of cowboys and dinosaurs onto the screen. The stop=motion animation is among his best work. The dinos move with great fluidity, in some cases better than the actors. Families with children will find that the first 38 minutes or so of standard dialogue and popcorn drama may bore the kids, but once the action moves to the forbidden valley and the dinos take over, the film will probably rivet young ones. I have watched this film numerous times and have never been bored. Recommended for adults and children.

Comments about Valley of Gwangi, The:

Great combination of Western and Fantasy. I have this movie on VHS tape, but the DVD version is so much better with the extra features. This movie was released in 1969 but I did not here about it, or see it until the mid to late seventies. I don't remember exactly when. It is one of Ray Harryhausen's best films featuring dinosaurs. The movie came out 2 or 3 years after "One Million Years BC", but the cast in "...Gwangi" was great. You don't see too many Westerns with dinosaurs in them.

Comments about Valley of Gwangi, The:

Great combo of the western & Sci-fi. Not a first time
"Beast from the Hollow Mountain" still holds that bar
stop motion Animator RayHarryhausen took break from
Sword & Sandal Fantasy to give ode to his mentor Willis O brien
from whom this story originally came. Capable actors
Francius, Golan and Carlson lend thier talents to a
story of small wild-west show down in Mexico that finds a lost dinosaur
valley then decides to capture and exploit it's resident Allosaur. This is a rerelease by WB under
the archive collection title which I'm glad to see
redone via snapcase but wish they would have took
this time to put on the original '60s poster art on
the cover. Oh well that's probably just me I guess

Comments about Valley of Gwangi, The:

You'd be amazed where you'll find real art in the movies. Is Gwangi a metaphor for conquering death or the ultimate conflagration of evil? Either way, you have to admit, there's a certain visual poetry in watching an allosaurus trapped in a burning spanish cathedral. Ray Harryhausen took a break from the Sinbad saga lending his stop motion wizardry to Gwangi and aren't we all thankful he did.
