It's hard to believe that I saw this movie as a child over 45 years ago and it scared the dickens out of me. When we got home, I insisted that my mom check all the closets before I would set foot in the house. This is the kind of movie that sticks with you after your childhood. And "Two on a Guillotine", unlike so many other impressionable childhood movies, does not disappoint. It's a film that genuinely gets better with each additional viewing. I'm happy to see that the film is finally regarded by many viewers as a Bonafied Classic.

I remember seeing this movie when it was first released to theaters in 1965. There was something about the movie that stuck in my mind. I latter saw it on TV some years later (this was before cable so there was commercials) and I didn't see it since. I was surprised that for the years that video was the big thing, this movie wasn't released. And still there was something about the movie that stuck in my mind but I couldn't tell specific things about it because I didn't remember. When I heard that Warner Archives will be releasing it, I had to purchase it (I already have CRESCENDO, so I knew that the DVD would work in my player). [...] I couldn't wait to watch it. What a disappointment. After watching, I kept on thinking What stuck in my mind about this movie. The movie is letterboxed with very good sound. All in all a perfect transfer. The acting is good for 1965. Some of the plot development took too long (the movie is 107 min., it could have fit nicely in 90 to 95 min. and I also remember it in color but I guess I was wrong). If I was seeing it for the first time I probably would like it (If you're expecting a haunted house movie, I don't want to spoil the movie for people who haven't seen it but the husband was a Magician. Keep that in mind). It's just that this movie was not what I remembered but at least I got to see it after all these years.

I remember this movie as a kid. It scared me to death. I still think about that rabbit. Connie Stevens was always a beautiful actress to me, and Dean Jones is fun to see outside Walt Disney. Very enjoyable.

What an easy way to improve my dvd collection. I've always enjoyed this movie - just couldn't enjoy my copy as well. This movie doesn't get much play, so I had just about given up on getting it. Nice for the archive to open up with more than just the popular movies. Thanks!

Comments about Two on a Guillotine:

In 1965, William Conrad (TV's "Cannon") directed three black and white suspense films for Warner Bros.: "Brainstorm," the mediocre "My Blood Runs Cold" and this film.
This film is a small-budget haunted house thriller with lovely Connie Stevens forced to spend 7 nights in her late father's bizarre mansion, in order to collect her inheritance. She is assisted by a likable Dean Jones as a reporter who, very predictably, falls in love with the charming Connie. Cesar Romero is very good as the bizarre magician, whose greatest trick involves a young woman and a guillotine (what else?) whose death sets the film in motion.
This is not a big budget film, most of today's average made for TV films have more size and scope. However, it does have its moments and the black and white gloom of the bizarre mansion seems appropriate. I never was a great fan of Connie Stevens. However she looks absolutely gorgeous here and delivers a nice performance.
This film will not scare today's younger audiences anymore than any of the great horror thrillers of the late, great William Castle. However, it is great fun for those of us who remember seeing it in the movies (like myself) or watching it on TV at a young age. If you want a little more than an hour and a half of fun and suspense, you could do worse than this film

This transfer was very good. It has the trailer on it which is good enough for me and rich black and white.
