Jane Fonda has always been a fine film actress. We know her best from her dramas such as They Shoot Horses,Don't They?; Klute; Coming Home; Julia and Nine to Five. Jane Fonda started in romantic comedies usually adapted from successful hit plays such as Barefoot in the Park, Any Wednesday, Tall Story, and Period of adjustment. Sunday in New York was an original work that works well on the screen. Jane Fonda was at home in comedy as she was in drama and this is a fine example. This 1963 film has Jane visiting her brother (Cliff Robertson)in New York, where it was filmed, to get away from her ex-fiancee (Robert Culp). Jane asks her brother about sex before marriage. What is true about this film is a double standard for the two sexes. Rod Taylor is excellent as a man Jane meets on a city bus and he has the romantic lead. The cast, script, and direction are all solid in this 60s comedy which deals with sex before marriage as the decade lead into the sexual revolution. It is a very entertaining and intelligent comedy which I highly recommend.

Inept RomCom.

This is an amateurish attempt at a romantic comedy. What is missing is the comedy part. The writing is dull and stilted and the characters are, for the most part, unimaginative.

Comments about Sunday In New York:

I saw this movie when it was first released in movie theaters in 1964. I love the principal cast members and have been a big fan of Rod Taylor since 1960 when he starred in THE TIME MACHINE.
This is a slick, original adult-level romantic comedy with a great piano music score by Peter Nero. I have been waiting for years for this to be released on video!

This is a cute one. I had never seen it before. I love Jane Fonda when she was so young. Barefoot in the Park and Tall Story are favorites. I wish she had made more like these. I enjoyed this one and am happy Warners released it. It has that great 60s look to it that I love from that era.

Comments about Sunday In New York:

Great 60's sex comedy made when hollywood didn't have to show nudity to convince moviegoers that they were watching a sex comedy. Jane Fonda is both gorgeous and funny, and once again Rod Tayor, one of the most truly underated actors ever, provides another entertaining performance. The perfect movie to watch on Sunday, in any city.

Comments about Sunday In New York:

This is one of my all time favorite movies; I've seen it many times. When I viewed this new remastered version, I saw details that I had never seen before. The movie is a classic, and the Peter Nero soundtrack is excellent. The price was great too; however, I would have paid more for the ability to select chapters and for the subtitle option.

Fun film which we enjoyed. Colorful with good audio...wish caption/subtitles would be added to these remastered films.

Comments about Sunday In New York:

I think the heading "Remastered" refers to the sound quality rather than picture quality. There were visable scratches and dings in this print. It was not as "remastered" as the mass market DVD's are and I feel that is a little misleading as we are paying premium prices for the "archive" versions.
