Comments about Search: The Complete Series (MOD):

This was an amazing event, because since it first aired as an "NBC World Premiere" TV movie on 2/21/72 as
"PROBE","SEARCH" has been one of THE most sought after TV titles for some 30-40 odd years, and thanks to Warner Archive, who made the series available in Feb 2014,"SEARCH" was finally found! debuting on NBC
in September 1972,the action-adventure series, now called a "spy-fi" show, given its then state of the art electronic technology it exploited,"SEARCH" was pretty much a high tech answer to "THE MAN FROM UNCLE",but on a more different level. using the rotation format previously used on Universal Television's "THE NAME OF THE GAME" series (1968-1971) the hour-long series starring Hugh O'Brian ("WYATT EARP") also rotated Doug McClure and Tony Franciosa in weekly alternates,as agents for "World Securities Corporation",whose executive operations used a NASA like format called Probe Control, who electronically monitored its agents, while on assignments,be it the recovery of missing jewels, missing people,or even missing items, such as a "Moonrock",as an early episode showed, the series had plenty of outstanding potential, but like all network shows with such things,"SEARCH" became nothing more, but a one season wonder! created by Leslie Stevens, the executive producer and creator of "THE OUTER LIMITS" and "STONEY BURKE",his series was way ahead of its time, given speculation as to whether it was science fiction or believable science fact, given its technology,it was sure an original! Burgess Meredith as "VCR Cameron" also gave the series some great class, but much of the computer equipment-stuff,like the old Burrows' units, were also seen on other TV shows like "BATMAN" and "LOST IN SPACE" for one,and very familiar sound effects, synonymous with many "STAR TREK" fans, which is ironic, since the series was first produced by Robert H Justman,"TREK"s associate producer, who was later succeeded by "MAN FROM UNCLE"s Anthony Spinner in later episodes. Bottomline: it's a great series!

This show was WAY ahead of its time! When I saw them triangulate a Probe agent's location using satellite technology, I realized I was glimpsing the past's version of what the future would be like. It was the early 70's version of GPS!! I loved this show as a kid but couldn't manage to watch it every night it was on. I bought the set for a friend too and he's excited to see it. I screen the episodes for friends every Saturday night and now they're hooked too! Thank you for releasing this show! I've been looking for it for decades and it did NOT disappoint!

Comments about Search: The Complete Series (MOD):

Search was very much ahead of its time: a near-future science fiction detective series (with Star Trek veteran Bob Justman among its producers) about an elite international detective agency whose agents are constantly monitored and supported by a room full of specialists patterned after NASA Mission Control. It lasted barely a full season back in 1972 and 1973, and except for occasional airings of the pilot film, had not been seen since.

But it was not forgotten by its fans, myself included. This DVD set, although it lacks any "extras," allows the series to live again. Some of the ideas, like easily concealed, wearable, video cameras, and the ability to retrieve information across computer networks, have come to fruition, while others seem almost as quaint as steampunk.

The series (and the pilot film, Probe, also available from Warner Archive) is entertaining, with mostly well-written stories, with healthy amounts of action, suspense, romance character development, and comic relief (though I'll admit that over four decades of technological development have added some comic relief the writers had never intended).

The only downside in the entire set seems to be a glitch (apparently a mastering problem, rather than a manufacturing problem, as I exchanged the set for a replacement that turned out to have exactly the same problem in exactly the same place) that causes a momentary freeze-frame in the episode, "Suffer My Child."

Comments about Search: The Complete Series (MOD):

I was an impressionable 17 year old back in 1972, with an interest in science in technology.

Imagine my amazement when this way-cool series showed up in the fall of 1972. I was glued to the set!

It led me to pursue a lifetime career in information technology.

After it went off the air, it seemed to completely disappear. Only fond memories remained to me.

Now 40 years later, I saw the original pilot and have watched the first 5 episodes. And I am so glad to say it is still as good as I remember it.

Thank you WB for making this available!

Thank you WB for making this short-lived series available on DVD! The series was well done and highly entertaining and deserved a longer run from NBC. Some of the technology may seem dated by today's standards, but the plots and storyline are very entertaining and well worth watching.

WONDERFUL TRANSFER, been waiting for this series for over 35 years....watched it first run on NBC on our brand new RCA XL-100 color TV and date nights were AWESUM!!!!! Might want to get the series pilot that was shown in MAY of 1972, although the styles and doos are somewhat dated you have to appreciate the rotating cast andthe grooovey chicks (Angel Tompkins) of that era.............last half of season a little hokey but hey, it was WARNER BROS and CGI and real pc's were a decade in the future....................

Thank you for finally bringing SEARCH to DVD! Leslie Stevens' vision of future technology and its application was spot-on. When the show aired in 1972-73, many people thought it was far-fetched. Now it all seems entirely believable. Only the hairstyles, clothing, and "hip" dialogue point back to the early 70's. The shows look and sound great. I've been longing to see these for over 40 years!

Finally, the show my inner 11 year old has wanted to see again for 40 years!

                        First, the good news:
                        1. Great transfer, or maybe more accurately, great re-mastering. The picture is crystal clear, no dirt, great color balance.
                        2. All the elements of the shows are there--intro, commercial bumpers, everything.
                        3. Great theme song!

                        And the bad news:
                        1. The plots move too slowly for 21st century sensibilities--my guess is that 11 year olds today would be bored silly watching this, but that's probably par for the course for a show from the 70s. I grew up with this stuff, and the pacing seems slow and stagey.
                        2. The Warner's backlot isn't a great stand in for the all the supposedly exotic places they visit--again, what looks hokey now was more than acceptable back then (like Mission Impossible was). And like MI, foreign lands were vague middle eastern or iron curtain nations, not real places.
                        3. Your cellphone can do more than the Probe technology...but that's not the point, is it?

For 1972, this show was way, way ahead of its time, and quite prescient about the direction that technology was headed.

In spite of the negatives listed, this is a fun show, and I highly recommend it. I think Warner's took a leap of faith by putting the effort into remastering a show that ran one year, and never ran in re-runs. Reward them by buying this set (and, of course, the series pilot, Probe).

All in all, this is a great release, and I thank Warner's for making the effort for this spy-fi series that was forgotten by everyone except those of us who were kids back in 1972, watching our TVs in awe of the coolest technology we could imagine!
