QUALITY ISSUE

By Turncoat

from Tarrytown

Comments about Scarlet Coat, The:

My previous review noted the poor transfer on home theatre equipment. A check on my standard screen display proved much better. However, the transfer is weaker than most Archive releases and the film is as confused a muddle as was reported by the critics on release, when the public steered clear. The Tarrytown location filming parts are the most attractive element of this film. Other reviewers liked it so if you want to - buy it and give it a try!

a big miss

Comments about Scarlet Coat, The:

a box office disaster on release - see it and you will know why. Talky, with little action, and the scenery filmed in Tarrytown is the film's main attraction. But if have a large display, you will realise what a poor transfer this is - in 2.55 Cinemascope and stereo - BUT it appears to have been taken from a public domain VHS tape. The first time Warner have goofed, for me, after purchasing hundreds of titles. "Metro's "The Scarlet Coat" rates an E for enterprise rather than excellence" said the N Y Times. I warned you.

Comments about Scarlet Coat, The:

The transfer( widescreen all right) looks "good" for this dvd edition. Generally it's a sharp, and solid image, however it's uneven in spots, with some softness and scratches.
The audio track is quite good:clear and clean.
Very watchable print.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !

I like this film because it deals with real events from history. Also, it has a good cast, including Ann Francis whom I had the pleasure of meeting some years ago where we discussed this film.
