Comments about Scaramouche (1923) (MOD):

This is an exceptional, magnificent, exciting, compelling, never dull, truly great Silent film, with very high production values and a superb cast. The always great (and ever-gorgeous) Silent star Ramon Novarro has a top-notch showcase here. I've seen dozens of great Silent films, and collected many of the best on DVD, and this is one of my personal absolute favourites. I rate it a perfect 10! As far as I'm concerned, this is a film you can't go wrong with adding to your collection. It holds up extremely well to modern viewing, has a strong, interesting, intelligent narrative, is thoroughly entertaining, never clunky, and doesn't at all feel/seem/look like now 90 years old. Picture quality is beautiful and overall excellent for a movie of this vintage, and the gorgeous, perfectly-suited recent-years newly added orchestral score is a flawlessly ideal made-to-order masterful match for this wonderful epic movie. Everything about this movie and this particular DVD release is thoroughly win-win, as far as I'm concerned!

    Comments about Scaramouche (1923) (MOD):

This silent film version of the novel is much more faithful than the 1950s color version and yet is much more rarely seen.

    Comments about Scaramouche (1923) (MOD):

This silent version of Rafael Sabatini's Scaramouche is not as good as the colorful Stewart Granger version but is still a delight to watch. Lewis Stone doesn't work as a swashbuckling hero as does Errol Flynn or Stewart Granger in the sound versions of Rafael Sabatini's filmed novels, but Scaramouche is too good a tale not to enjoy. The film is in decent condition, some reels being better than others. The opening scene of the village is superb. If you are a silent film fan you will certainly enjoy the film.
