    Comments about Primrose Path:

"Primrose Path" is a surprisingly frank, tender, and earthy comedy-drama filled with vivid performances. Foremost among them is Ginger Rogers, who believably and engagingly matures from a tomboyish young woman to a caring and good-humored wife; I would easily rate her work here superior to her performance the same year in "Kitty Foyle," for which she won an Oscar. Joel McCrea is also good as Ginger's fast-talking, slangy leading man, and Marjorie Rambeau (who was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar) is heartbreaking as the good-time girl mother who, in her own way, always wants to do right by her daughter. Expect both laughter and tears in this warm, rich picture.

    PRE CODE FILM GOES CLOSE

    Comments about Primrose Path:

a STRANGE PRE CODE FILM TOUCHES ON ESCORTS AND PEOPLE WITH NEITHER MORALS NOR FAMILY VALUES. YET IT IS PLAYED LARGELY FOR LAUGHS BY GINGER & JOEL WHO HAD BOTH HAD PRIOR SUCCESS IN THE THIRTIES. INTERESTING STORY LINE OF GINGER ROGERS LIVING IN A POOR SHANTY TOWN WITH HOPELESS PARENTS AND FERAL NANA FROM HELL. JOEL MC.CRAE COMES INTO HER LIFE AND THE STORY TWISTS WEAVE THEIR WAY TOWARD A HAPPY ENDING. THE QUALITY IS INFERIOR TO ARCHIVE STANDARDS THAT WE GET FROM M-G-M FILMS. THIS IS AN EARLY 1940 RKO RELEASE WITH MUCH GRAIN BUT LITTLE DAMAGE.

      Comments about Primrose Path:

a fell-good movie about a young woman who avoids hitting the sidewalks for work. the supporting characters steal the show, and mccrea as a gas station jockey and rogers as the woman in question shine.

dvd quality is good: audio and visuals are clear.
