Comments about Possessed (1931) (MOD):

This is what movies are all about & why we use to go to the theaters. If you are Godly and believe in man & woman & marriage this movie will not disappoint. It's too bad that our younger generation can't find movies like this. It leaves you totally satisfied and you can seriously relate to the ABOVE AVERAGE LOOKING characters. Too many of our films today harp on nothing but separation of relationships, ultimately having bad overcome good. I guess this is an example of our society today! This movie would have been fantastic and could blow away most of todays' movies if TED TURNER was allowed to continue his COLORIZATION of all the old classic black & white movies. Along with upgrading the sound to current excellence, this movie be UNBELIEVABLE!

One of the best films of the early 1930's & one of Joan Crawford's best, too. Every collector should have Possessed in their collection.

      Comments about Possessed (1931) (MOD):

For a 1931 movie , the quality of the movie print exceeded my expectations....I don't want it to look all scrubbed and artificially perfect...kind of like Suzanne Somers after plastic surgery..it looked its age and real and looked great...the movie itself is carried by the charisma of the actors more than the storyline...totally enjoyable...

        Comments about Possessed (1931) (MOD):

This is one of the most fascinating and competent of the Crawford-Gable parings, both of them still vibrant young contract players backed up by excellent studio resources. A comparison to Joan's later triumph at Warner's in Mildred Pierce is fascinating, as in both she plays a woman who works her way out of demeaning surroundings to achieve a social and financial prominence, but in the latter she has developed both a harder edge and evolved an acting style concurrent with the period. That said, the earlier film, being a pre-code product, is a good deal franker about illicit relationships and other social matters--Possessed is excellent viewing for not only Crawford-Gable fans but for anyone wanting to tune in on films that strongly and competently reflect the period.

            Comments about Possessed (1931) (MOD):

Not to be confused with the cheesy 1947 Possessed (completely different; not a remake, but also starring Crawford) this smart, well-written film takes an astonishingly--for the times-- non-judgmental look at the options available to wome at the time. Crawford plays a kept woman,a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who attracts the interest of Gable, a Park Avenue lawyer.

The script is often witty, and Crawford gives a believable performance--although you have to laugh at a paper box factory worker making such an incredibly tranformation in only 3 years. But, hey, it's 1931. These things happen.

            Well worth watching.
