I was thrilled when I discovered this set was in the works! I'm a huge fan of Looney Tunes and classic animation in rental and I'm so excited to get this in my hands! I haven't seen some of these cartoons in years and I never thought they'd ever be released on DVD. I sincerely hope all animation fans will consider buying this. It's an essential part of anyone's collection. Here's hoping Warner Bros will give us more sets like this in the future!

This is a fun set, but I don't understand all the rave reviews. Many of the cartoons look worse than what I taped off of Cartoon Network years ago and have audio goofs on like a third of the cartoons; quite a few literally take you out of the viewing experience. A little TLC and QC go a long way. Adding insult to injury, I paid full price the day this went on sale. The price dropped significantly before release date and WB Shop refused to honor the lowest price, so I had to cancel (not an easy thing) and reorder. Plus it took a full week to arrive. Not an ace in customer service.

Though physical home video is still strong, it's not strong like it used to be. Sure streaming is nice and convenient, but it will never replace the joy and comfort of owning a show or movie you love on a physical copy. For those who love buying physical stuff, it's sometimes hard for our favorite stuff to come to home video with streaming being so mainstream. Luckily, there are still people out there who still care about physical home video and do whatever they can to make it happen. That's where Jerry Beck and George Feldstein come into the picture; for 5 years, they've been working on a top secret animation on DVD project for the Warner Archive and here it is; Porky Pig 101. What is it? 101 Porky Pig shorts (99 black-and-white and 2 in color) from I Haven't Got a Hat to Porky Pig's Feat. Over 50 shorts never before available on DVD before (and even some PD shorts finally officially on home video from Warner!), uncut with new transfers the interpositives (not the negatives mind you, that's the only drawback, but something from an interpositive can look mighty impressive. It should also be noted that any Porky shorts on the Golden/Platinum Collections/Essential Daffy Duck will have the same transfers found on those sets). For Looney Tunes, Porky Pig, and animation fans, this is a MUST to add to your collection! And if this set sells well, more will follow. It's all part of a big experiment to see if animation sets like this have a place in the Warner Archive. So if you want more, buy this set now and to give you some motivation...MGM Tex Avery is on the list (though the title is a certain number in the animation set list).

Porky in Wackyland may be Bob Clampett's best cartoon, but it's not an exception to his style; it's representative. He didn't *put* the Looney into the Tunes (that was Tex Avery) but I think he was the Loony-est. So Porky has never been my favorite character, but Clampett was my favorite director, and out of the 101 cartoons on this set? Almost HALF of them are Clampett's! How much of the Daffy Duck Whoop of Glee is too much? None more Daffy is too much. Yes, the set is sharp, clear, whole, and above all comprehensive and chronological, which is just correct, but the real thing is that even though it's not early Daffy, or Chronological Bugs, it is *far* from a not-what-you'd-hope-for set, or an also ran, the medicine you take before getting the sugar. Clampett always brings the sugar.

I'm exuberant, nut I only give four because it's DVD. I realize that realities kept this set from being on blu-ray, but it's also a reality that DVD is now two formats ago. Saying it's excellent "for DVD" now really means something. But it is excellent, so I supported - bought from the site even with the extra $$. I do want more of these. I'm also glad of this one on its own merit.

It's nice to have Porky's starting years all in one collection. It's too bad though that the picture quality ranges for each cartoon, "Porky's Tire Trouble" intro is used on several cartoons that it doesn't belong and ruining some gags. The bonuses are minimal and what's given is reused from previous Looney Tunes DVD collections.

This is the stuff. Tex Avery, Bob Clampett, Frank Tashlin. The best animators of all time in in their prime. And so much content. An incredible value for the price. A shame they couldn't have done Blu-Ray, but this is an amazing product.

At long last, a comprehensive collection of Porky Pig, showing his development from an "Our Gang" knockoff into a genuine star, and the transition to his eventual role as an Everyman character and occasional sidekick. Growing up I was only exposed to the AAP pre-'48 color LTs and MMs (shown in black and white of course) so most of these cartoons are new to me, except for the handful that appeared in previous compilations or as part of a "Warner Night at the Movies" bonus feature included with some classic Warner films.
Quality overall is quite good. The opening and closing credits seem to have suffered the worst, with variable contrast and a few instances where the music behind the title cards has obviously been replaced (it sticks out like a sore thumb - the edits are terrible!) But it's the toons that matter and they are a joy to behold. Kudos to the Warner Archive for this collection. Let's hope it's only the beginning.

I enjoy many original movies, cartoons, and books. The originality of the "first work" always outweighs consecutive modified reworks and even sequels.
