    Comments about Pagan, The (MOD):

Half-caste and half-dressed Novarro shines as a playful loafer with a sense of humor; and the camera is clearly in love with his body.

DVD briefly broke into pixels once about half-way through. The climax is cut awkwardly, as if several frames were missing. Otherwise, enjoy he sunny skies and clear waters of this island romp.

      Comments about Pagan, The (MOD):

If you enjoy silent movies, this is one to check out. I especially liked the way they tried to sync the music to the film. It ends up being a "silent musical." Ramon is at the top of his game. For such an old film, the quality was outstanding.!

I appreciate Warner Bros. Archive for the release of many silent movies with best contrast and quality.

          Comments about Pagan, The (MOD):

A completely enjoyable film from the transition-to-sound period. Maybe a bit politically incorrect--the half-caste south seas islander comes across as a bit of a dope, etc.--but also, in other ways politically astute (in showing the ways rich First Worlders went to places like that and took advantage of the locals.) Finally, the location photography and the gorgeous Ramon Novarro (whose easy, boyish smile here is unexpected to those of us who've only seen him as more serious characters in "Ben-Hur" and "Mata Hari") make the film a diverting and pleasing experience.
