Comments about Once upon a Honeymoon (MOD):

Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers are amazing together. The comedy is so natural and sarcastic. I love that the movie gets serious with the nazi element but keeps it light and warm hearted. Another Nazi spy movie like this is "Above Suspicion", which I love as well, that one of course without the humor. Saw this a long time ago and bought it when it was finally available on dvd. It's up there with my other Ginger Rogers favorites, "Major & the Minor" and "Bachelor Mother". :)

Comments about Once upon a Honeymoon (MOD):

Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers are lost patriots in this war time flick that mirrors the uncertainty generated by war. The film starts as a comedy (Grant measuring Rogers for a dress), becomes a dark drama ("this is serious!" Grant says when they land in a concentration camp complete with sterilization exams), an espionage piece with Rogers taking the Pledge of Allegiance, and fluctuates back and forth until the very good ending scene. Rogers loses her accent she had at the beginning, and the plot meanders way too long. The cast and crew seem to realize halfway through that, when dealing with the real-life horrors of WWII, the film just isn't funny, and it falls flat.

still, I recommend this movie for fans of Grant and Rogers, who do shine in some moments of mirth sprinkled throughout.

Comments about Once upon a Honeymoon (MOD):

"Classic film" fans already know this is an important film to collect. What you need to know is: 1. Very watchable print (good contrast, relatively sharp for a direct transfer DVD) 2. Good audio 3. Low quality DVD-R product (poor quality control, may not play properly)4. Worth purchasing during sale events only

Comments about Once upon a Honeymoon (MOD):

Very entertaining "war movie" starring Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers as war reporter and dancer-turned-baroness, respectively. Ginger has unwittingly married Hitler's advance man -- on their honeymoon across Europe, every country they visit ends up being "annexed" by the Nazis. Cary convinces her that being titled and rich isn't worth being stuck with a chubby Nazi husband. They share a few scrapes with the resistance and see the beginnings of the Final Solution as Ginger begins to fall in love with the principled reporter. It has a few heavy-handed propaganda lines about America needing to wake up, but then again, America needed to wake up. Charming from beginning to its surprise end!
