Nasty Habits (MOD)

It began as a simple convent election. Then came the illegal buggings. the bungled break-in, the hasty cover-up and the exorbitant payoffs.

    Comments about Nasty Habits (MOD):

For some reason, the back of this WB Archive release doesn't mention that it's a great spoof of the Nixon Presidency and Watergate. If you're too young to remember those days, some of the humor will not register, so here's a quick guide: Nixon: Glenda Jackson; Kissinger: Melina Mercouri; Haldemann and Ehrlichman: Geraldine Page and Anne Jackson; John Dean: Sandy Dennis; Gerald Ford: Anne Meara. Sandy Dennis walks away with the show. Her rabbity Mr. Dean may be her funniest performance ever. But keep an eye on the other ladies as well. Ms. Page, for instance, has her own set of mannerisms that also had me laughing out loud. Thanks, guys, for allowing me to FINALLY discard my old pan-and-scan VHS.

      Comments about Nasty Habits (MOD):

I saw this in movie theaters as a child, and bought it on a nostalgic whim, doubting that it would hold up to my memories. Surprisingly, it did! It's a wickedly funny parody of the Watergate scandal and the Nixon administration -set in a convent. The performers are well cast, and the writing is sharp. I get the sense that the film was edited -that there were scenes left on the cutting room floor. But still, as is, it's a very funny and entertaining spoof with excellent performances by an outstanding cast.
