Monster, The

Lon Chaney plays the monstrous, dourly expressive Ziska, who gathers candidates for his eerie experiments by causing roadway accidents. While The Man of a Thousand Faces provides the creepiness, a nimble cast provides the comedy.

Comments about Monster, The:

The video quality was far better than expected! It was pretty good regarding the age of the Movie!
The picture quality is "OK": clear picture, decent black most of the time and sound is good also. However the print is not flawless!
So very watchable print.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

    Comments about Monster, The:

I saw The Monster in late 1960's. I owned it in 8mm in 1995 but with poor quality & contrast. I thought I would never see it again until the wonderful news came to my dream. Warner Archives release the finest Chaney film with best contrast

      Comments about Monster, The:

The movie doesn't really belong to Lon Chaney. It belongs to Johnny Arthur portraying Johnny Goodlittle, amateur detective and he provides a wonderful performance. Anyone who's seen the Our Gang shorts know Mr Arthur as Darla's hapless father.

Chaney's role as the mad Dr Ziska doesn't appear until quite late in the film, but his performance is the model that Bela Lugosi mimed in portraying Dracula.

The print is wonderful. The sound track uses generic music cuts that I heard underneath many of the Garbo silents many years ago but they work well.

        Comments about Monster, The:

Anything with Lon Chaney Sr is worth owning and watching. This film can't decide whether it's a thriller or a comedy but is pretty good on both. More Lon Chaney please. The score here isn't bad (unlike the one for "Mr. Wu".
