James Garner is a wonderful actor, but not the hard bitten private eye. He seems more comfortable with the quip than the whip. Based on a Raymond Chandler novel, the film is funny and suspenseful. Rita Moreno is a bright spot in a supporting role and it is fun to see Bruce Lee in a film role just before he broke big in China.

This film was supposedly remastered, but doesn't look all that great. (Recently aired on TCM and looked MUCH better on cable than via this dvd.)
