The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is my all-time favorite tv series and I have been waiting for some of these films for a long time. The interesting thing is that these represent 2 films from each of U.N.C.L.E.'s 4 (3 1/2 actually) seasons. They represent the constant deterioration of a great series during its first 3 seasons.
The 2 films from season 1 "To Trap a Spy" and "The Spy With My Face" were released theatrically in the US and were a big hit. (I remember standing on a long line for these films.) They were color versions of two episodes from UNCLE's 1st(black and white) season with some additional footage added: 2 new opening action scenes and additional scenes of a sexual nature with Lucianna Paluzzi (soon to be seen in "Thunderball")in "To Trap a Spy" and Senta Berger in "Spy Who Loved Me." These two films are played seriously and are a lot of fun.
By UNCLE's second season the deterioration into camp had begun. The film "One Spy Too Many" is the 2 part second season opener "The Alexander the Greater Affair." There is no additional padding in this or any of the other films. This is the last UNCLE film to be released theatrically in the U.S." The second 2nd season film "One of Our Spies is Missing" is based on a boring 2 parter "The Bridge of Lions Affair." Not very memorable or exciting.
The 3rd season UNCLE devolved totally into camp. The once professional Solo and Illya were now a couple of clowns who were constantly beaten in every fight scene (until about 5 minutes before the end of the episode) and the show resembled a Keystone Kops comedy. The less said about the films "The Spy With the Green Hat" and the "Karate Killers" the better. The first film even wastes guest star Joan Crawford.
In UNCLE's final season, the Producers came to their senses and brought some sense of realism back to UNCLE. However the damage was done and UNCLE was cancelled in mid-season. The 2 4th season films "The Helicopter Spies" and "How to Steal the World" are based on 2 fantastic two parters "The Prince of Darkness Affair" and the "Seven Wonders of the World Affair" (UNCLE's final episode.)
This set is worth getting for the first two films and the last two. I watched the first 2 and the picture quality of "To Trap A Spy" is way better than "The Spy Who Loved Me" (which was plagued by too many black dots popping up during the film.)
If you are an UNCLE fan from the beginning like I was, these films will bring you back to a period when UNCLE just about rivaled Bond in popularity (and with "Goldfinger" and "Thunderball" both being in release at the time, that was no easy feat.)

    Terrible Movies

I'm glad that you're distributing your entire library. Some will be forgotten treasures and others will be garbage. These quasi-movies are not good.

Comments about Man From U.N.C.L.E., The: 8 Movies Collection:

I am a longtime, diehard U.N.C.L.E. fan and was very happy to see these movies finally made available on DVD. I had taped them off of TV some years ago and although I was glad to have them on VHS, this is much better. I was overjoyed when WB released the series back in '07 and was hoping that the movies would eventually get a release, so I'm very happy they did and my collection is now complete.

Warner Bros. has done an excellent job with these movies. The DVD transfers of the movies are superb. The colors are gorgeous and the audio is super. It was also nice that they included the original film trailers as a bonus.

The only reason I gave this release 4 stars instead of 5 is that the last 35 minutes or so of one of the movies would not play on my home DVD player. I also tried it on my wife's portable player and the same thing happened. Other than that, this is a very high-class product and well worth the money.

If you are an U.N.C.L.E. fan who enjoys the series and don't have this yet, I strongly recommend you purchase it. Even more casual fans of the show will enjoy these movies.

        Well done, Warner Brothers!!

Comments about Man From U.N.C.L.E., The: 8 Movies Collection:

It's enjoyable to see the movie length films, with the added scenes to pad them out; and of course, you cannot see these in the original episodes, even though you can see 3/4 of them. Too bad they are not widescreen, as seems indicated by the trailers which are the only extras.

It is nice to see the theatrical and extended version of some of the shows. Howevere, there were a few movies that were not really exteneded episode versions, which are already on the complete series dvd set.

IF THE DEVOTEE WISHED TO LOOK AT THE VARIOUS FACETS OF THE CLASSIC TV SERIES WITHOUT VIEWING ALL 105 EPISODES, THIS IS JUST THE PASSPORT. LITERALLY COVERING THE SERIES FROM THE BEGINNING TO ITS JANUARY 1968 FINALE WITH HOW TO STEAL THE WORLD, THE COLLECTION SUPERBLY EXHIBITS ITS ORIGINS FROM STRAIGHT SPY STORIES TO COMEDY-ORIENTED SHADING TO HIGH-CAMP BEFORE RETURNING TO THE TRADITIONAL SPY MOTIF. ONLY THE FIRST THREE WERE RELEASED IN THE U.S., WITH THE OTHER FIVE RELEGATED TO FOREIGN DISTRIBUTION, A TREND FOR MARKETING POPULAR TV SERIES TO OVERSEAS AUDIENCES. THE COLLECTOR-DEVOTEE WILL NOT FIND A BETTER GEM OF THE 1960S.

man from UNCLE fans will be delighted by this DVD issue of all eight UNCLE movies. These were extremely popular during the time the series was on and yet they've rarely been seen by most fans. It's great to have them packaged all together. Interesting to see the new footage inserted in each movie that never showed in the series. Love it!

Comments about Man From U.N.C.L.E., The: 8 Movies Collection:

A great collection of all eight U.N.C.L.E. movies for fans of the series. It's fun but, beware ... the movies are uneven. You have the terrific "To Trap a Spy," "One Spy Too Many," "The Spy in the Green Hat" and "The Helicopter Spies." But, then you also have the painfully grim "How To Steal the World," the overly camp "Karate Killers"and the tepid "One of Our Spies is Missing." "The Spy With My Face" has some wonderful moments but is weakened by some hokey "adult" scenes of Napoleon Solo being romantic with the female characters. Still, if you're an U.N.C.L.E. fan, this set (warts and all) is a must.

It's nice to have the "Man From UNCLE" movies on DVD. The trailers were a fun addition, but why couldn't Robert Vaughn and David McCallum (both alive as I write this) offer commentary on their co-stars, the plot, the gadgets or where filming took place?
