Glad to see it was finally released in a nice quality DVD - it was a long wait!
Yes! The print is quite good:Black levels are consistent and at times very impressive, and the delineation between gray tones and whites is also often quite good,a reasonably sharp and clear image with above average contrast, and audio track is great too. With the exception of this very annoying vertical line between 34'56 and 36'09 just in the middle of the most important Scene!
A+ script, Solid Cast(early R.Mitchum), good director and Great Cinematography !
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

          Comments about Locket, The:

This psychological study of a charming lady with a dark side is an obscure gem. The story is sensational and the strong cast and dramatic photography fulfill the potential of the screenplay. This film merits the full 5 stars.
The film begins on the day when Gene Raymond and Laraine Day are about to be married. Brian Aherne introduces himself to Raymond and relates to him the details of how Miss Day is responsible for the violent deaths of three men. He claims she is a plausible liar, a compulsive jewel thief, and a murderer. Among her victims, according to Aherne, was the talented artist Robert Mitchum, who painted a ghastly portrait of her as Cassandra and then leaped through a window to his death.
This is a spectacular role for Laraine Day, who gets to wield all her wonderful charm to mask wickedness. The premise of the plot is that having had a locket taken away from her when she was a child has made an uncontrollable lust for jewels govern her adult life. Through her smooth lies, Laraine avoids all consequences of her misdeeds until her wedding to Gene Raymond. As she walks up the aisle in her bridal gown toward him, the past comes alive and torments Laraine until she loses consciousness—when she awakens, her mind is that of the child at the center of her psyche.

Very good film noir. Laraine Day's role and acting is surprisingly good. Brian Aherne solid; very young Robert Mitchum in a role that's not very credible.

              Good image and sound quality.
A good noir find. Very good psychological noir drama, as oppose to a crime noir drama. Better script than Spellbound.

                  Comments about Locket, The:

The Locket (1946) is an excellent Film Noir which uses flashbacks to tell the story of an engaging, beautiful woman (Laraine Day) who is nothing close to what she appears to be. The scenes of her childhood experiences are chilling and help to explain the woman she has become. Robert Mitchum is one of several men who falls under her spell. The movie holds up very well for today's audience and the picture quality and sound are excellent.
