Comments about Lieutenant, The - The Complete Series, Part 1:
I've waited 50 years to see this and it didn't disappoint. I was in the Marine Corps when this was filmed and in the same Reg. as was shown. I saw, alot of old friends that I haven't seen since then. I even got to see myself in a scene with Bill Bixby getting in the back of my jeep. I told family and friends I was a TV star now I ccan prove it.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The Lieutenant -- Long Lost TV Friend

Outstanding show!! It was my favorite in grade school and where I first learned of the Naval Academy, giving me a goal to do well academically for nominations to service academies. I was so disappointed when there was no second season and feared I would not see any episodes in re-runs. Thanks for putting it on DVD. Unlike many who view it as simply a prequel to the great "Star Trek" series, I consider "The Lieutenant," its stars Gary Lockwood, Robert Vaughn, et al., and of course Gene Roddenberry to deserve the highest praise for their portrayal of complex issues surfacing during that era including foreign war, race relations, and women in combat.

For several years I have looked for this product. IMDB comments indicated it would be released last year. I found out on Wikipedia that it had been released August 10th. Even then, it was because of the graphic that I noticed it was available. On the other hand, I am very thankful to have it.

It was great to see this series available on dvd. It was Gene Roddenberry's first effort and it had an excellent cast.
Long-lost series an enjoyable experience
from Westland, MI
This long-lost series was the first one produced by Gene Roddenberry. It only lasted one season but was good enough to have continued. But if it had continued, he might never have created Star Trek. The series offers a look at the Marine Corps just before Vietnam escalated into a major conflict, focusing on young Lt. William T. Rice and the challenges he faces both on and off duty. There are several recognizable actors, including several who would go on to appear in Star Trek.
Thank you Warner Brothers.
