FIRST OF ALL YOU NOT ONLY GET ONE OF THE RIDDLERS FROM THE ORIGINAL TV'S BATMAN PLAYED BY THE GREAT FRANK GORSHIN HIMSELF, YOU ALSO GET ADAM (BATMAN) WEST, AND BURT(ROBIN)WARD, AND THE VERY HOT HOT HUNKY BILL NUCKOLS AS HAWKMAN AND WHAT A HOT BODY ON THAT MAN, HUNKY GARRETT CRAIG AS CAPTAIN MARVEL, HUNKY HOWARD MURPHY AS GREEN LATERN. NOT TO MENTION THE VERY FUNNY CHARLIE CALLAS, HOWARD MORRIS , JEFF (DUKES OF HAZZARDS) ALTMAN AND MARSHA (NIGHT COURT, EMPTY NEST)WARFIELD IN A CAMEO AS WELL AS OTHER SUPERHEROS THAT DON'T GET MUCH AIR TIME BUT STILL WORTH THE TIME TO WATCH THIS GREAT CLASSIC! THEN YOU HAVE THE SUPER HERO ROAST LIKE THE DEAN MARTIN ROAST YEARS AGO ALONG WITH RUTH BUZZI, PAT CARROLL IN CAMEOS! THIS DVD IS 100% WORTH THE TIME TO GET AND ENJOY ALL OVER AGAIN!

What I love about this way of acquiring movies is that for stuff that does not have a broad enough audience for a larger release can actually get burned on demand for those particular fans that are just dying to own something that they always remembered. I was excited to get a good quality copy of this show and I did. This is about as good as this show gets. One draw back was when I put it in my DVD player, it did NOT play. And this is in a DVD recorder/player, designed to burn DVDs just like the one I received. Once I put it in my computer, however, it played fine, BUT, I like watching my movies on TV, NOT computer. Other than that, I will order from the WB archives again, but if it doesn't play on my recorder compatible player, I may have to stop. That said, buy a copy of the show. It's HORRIBLE, but a must have. How's that for a quick review.

Comments about Legends Of The Super Heroes (1979) from Warner Bros.:

Attempt to relaunch some sort of Superhero series.
Adam West is entertainingly snide. Frank Gorshin is hysterical--and a tad overweight.
        Good-looking blonde as Black Canary.
        No action at all.

This is a wonderful piece of vintage television that I didn't even know existed! if there's a 60's Batman fan in the family this would be a great gift. As I say...it's SUPER cheesy...but fun.

Comments about Legends Of The Super Heroes (1979) from Warner Bros.:

I thought this movie would be at least the same quality of the original Batman series. It is a very poor imitation. The first half you might want to watch on-line somewhere. It is slightly humorous. The second half roast with Ed McMahon was so stupid it was painful to watch. Unless you are a hard core fan of Adam West do not buy this movie at any price.

It's about as cheesy as you can get, but it's still entertaining. The fight between Solomon Grundy & Batman was pretty captivating ;)

Comments about Legends Of The Super Heroes (1979) from Warner Bros.:

Yes, this was made on a tight budget, yes, it was silly, and yes, the Flash's insignia was backwards. Over that? Good! Bearing all that in mind, along with the show's good points (of which there are many), it's a wonderful bit of fun.

People complain about the costumes, but in reality they're no worse than the Batman and Robin outfits worn by West and Ward. Some of them are really well-done, and the makeup worn by the actors who play Mordru, Solomon Grundy, and Dr. Sivana are exceptional.

A lot of the gags are corny (mostly in a good way), and Adam West (Batman), great actor though he is, seems to cringe at some of the lines he was given. But really, this was no dafter than any given episode of "Batman," and a good deal less silly than some (anyone remember Batman in a surfing contest with the Joker, complete with "baggies" on over his costume?).

Indeed, the show follows the format of the "Batman" series, with the heroes playing it stalwartly straight and the villains hamming it up and providing most of the laughs.

The strength is in the casting; everyone is well-suited to their characters, and regardless of what their personal feelings were as regards the script, they all throw themselves into their parts with gusto. Special mention must be made of Solomon Grundy.

Mickey Morton, whose other claim to fame was playing Chewbacca's wife Malla in "The Star Wars Holiday Special," is quite possibly the best-cast actor in the show. His Grundy is absolutely true to the character as portrayed in the comics at the time: huge, powerful, dangerous... and dim.

Despite Adam West's documented dislike of "Legends," it is nonetheless great fun to see him, Burt Ward (Robin), and Frank Gorshin (The Riddler) back in their old roles again, and despite a bit of a paunch on Gorshin, they all look good for eleven years after their last appearances.

The best line in the show comes from the Green Lantern's arch enemy Sinestro after failing to capture GL while disguised as Gypsy fortune teller Madame Lazonga.

Weather Wizard: Why didn't you run after him?

Sinestro: Why?! Because it's not ladylike.

No, it probably would never happen in the comics, but this isn't the comics. Of course, there are a lot of comics in it.

On the technical side, the sound and picture quality are first rate, and after years of watching an old VHS tape of "Legends," this is like seeing it for the first time.

I was also surprised to see that the DVD has extras, namely a deleted scene and some outtakes.

I look forward to many more delighted viewings, and I thank WBshop for making it possible.
