    Comments about Invitation, The (MOD):

"Invitation" is an early example of the "suburban unrest" genre that would flower in the mid-1950's with the films of Douglas Sirk ("Magnificent Obsession," "Written on the Wind," etc.) and is elevated by a sensitive script by Broadway playwright Paul Osborne and an exciting supporting performance by raven-haired Ruth Roman as a confident "other woman." The only demerit to the story is its heavy use of flashback sequences, but all in all this is an intelligent film that is a notch above your average soap opera.
