This was purchased as a gift. It arrived very promptly and has been viewed twice. The dvd plays well, it being remastered has not affected the quality. A heart warming story, filled with wonderful family values.

IF YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS FILM AND YOU LOVE "CLASSIC" MOVIES, YOU ARE IN FOR A TREAT.

NO COLLECTOR IS WITHOUT A COPY OF THIS IMPORTANT WORK OF ART.

                1. A VERY NICE PRINT WAS USED FOR THE DVD.

                2. GOOD CLEAR AUDIO

                3. DON'T FALL FOR THE "REMASTERING" HYPE.
FIND OUT WHAT THE WORD REALLY MEANS!

                4. LOW QUALITY DVD-R DISC. THIS FILM, HOWEVER,
IS THE ONLY WB SHOP PRODUCT RELEASED SO FAR
THAT IS WORTH PAYING THE REDICULOUSE ASKING
                PRICE OF...

                5. PURCHASE, HOWEVER, DURING THE MAJOR SALES EVENTS ONLY.

Better organized than the book Saroyan wrote after the film was made. All star cast of second-teer MGM contract players. Ends with forties-style emphasis on spirituality and its importance to families in wartime.

I think they should put a paper in side the DVD case telling a little more about the movie than just what's printed on the back of the case.

                    Comments about Human Comedy, The:

I was thrilled when I saw Warner was making this film available on DVD. It's always been one of our favorites, but we could never manage our schedule to one of the all too few showings on Turner Classics. Wonderful film about family, patriotism, and pulling together. Mickey Rooney is wonderful as the "man of the family," and I get a lump in my throat watching Van Johnson give a steller performance as the older brother sent off to war. When I tire of the fast pace of living in the 21st Century, this is the film I watch. The entire cast is top notch as is the story and production value. Thank you Warner Brothers for releasing this gem.

                    Comments about Human Comedy, The:

My recommendation is conditional. If you are a fan of today's nasty, violent, hyper-edited movies, then you will probably hate "The Human Comedy", which is pleasant, sentimental, and slow-moving. On the other hand, if you can appreciate Rooney's nuanced performance (still playing teenagers at age 23) and you enjoy seeing a lot of familiar 40s faces (including several stars-in-the-making) at their best, then this bittersweet WWII story will probably appeal to you. It makes a good companion piece to Selznick's "Since You Went Away".

The video is sharp and clear, but not fully restored (there are many white specks). The audio is fine.

Warner has made a few changes for its latest titles. There are now chapter markers at most of the scene changes (this title has 24 chapters), but the movies now run in the "PLAY" mode, so chapters and running time are not displayed (boo!). You can only access the chapters by stepping through them with your remote.

Highly entertaining, emotionally involving film that sheds light on a particular time and place that ultimately inspired a fine novel. This film's greatest legacy besides all the perfect performances (especially Mickey Rooney's)is the justly famous William Saroyan book that was published after the film's release.
