Powell + Young + Allen = Fun

      Comments about Honolulu:

The old mistaken identity plot has been around at least since the days of Shakespeare, but this movie gives it some new life. Eleanor Powell's dance routines are great, as always, but she continues to flash that coathanger smile at the end of every number. Robert Young brings plenty of charm to his dual role. There's also a stereotypical Asian character who may make you cringe, but he turns out to be smarter than he looks.

Oddly, Burns and Allen are half a world apart for most of the movie and only come together at the very end. George gets very little screen time as a fast-talking New York agent, while Gracie does her ditsy routine with every other member of the cast and steals all the scenes she's in. No wonder this was their last movie together. Of course, they went on to great success in radio and television.

The B&W print is clean and crisp and the sound is par for 1939.

        Comments about Honolulu:

Eleanor Powell had strong appeal on the screen. The confusion of changing identities resulted in some funny situations and misunderstandings. This is a very enjoyable movie.

This classic movie should not have been issued on a DVD-R.

The print, on a large projected screen, looks as good as Blu-Ray. Wonderful Dancing and funny story.

        All Around Great Movie!

        By John's

        Comments about Honolulu:

This this was a great movie. Great characters, great actors. The 73 minutes used in the movie was not wasted and I was never bored. This is one of the better pre code movies I have seen and Dorothy Mackaill's performance is wonderful to watch.
