Comments about Hollywood Revue of 1929 (MOD):

With thanks to previous reviewers for their detailed appraisals, I ordered this and am quite happy with the DVD. The film appears complete - including the color sequences. Some footage is better than others - but the variances do not distract from the content. Fun seeing Jack Benny interacting with Laurel & Hardy. Offers a too-rare look and listen to the Brox Sisters (as most of their singing in short films has been lost). The John Gilbert, Norma Shearer, Lionel Barrymore scene (in color) is great. Etc.

Certainly not for everyone. More for those interested in Hollywood history. This movie features many silent movie stars in their first talkie.

Comments about Hollywood Revue of 1929 (MOD):

Color sequences are super. It is great to see artists known from 78RPM records and a few movies. It is as if one is viewing a stage review from the audience. The taps are heard as they resound on the stage, very natural.

Comments about Hollywood Revue of 1929 (MOD):

This print has not been restored so the quality at times is not very good but seeing this early musical with the dance routines, young performers who will later become big stars, and the revue format that was so common in the theatre at this time is indeed a wonderful experience.

[...]I was so grateeful to know that they took this movie and FINALLY made it into a DVD! Even though the picture from back then is not the greatest in quality - it is old (considering it was 1929!) Love seeing a young Joan Crawford singing and dancing and many of the film stars of yesteryear!

Comments about Hollywood Revue of 1929 (MOD):

This is one rare and fun film. The production numbers are great and it's it's wall to wall entertainment. The print is not restored but it is watchable. Even if you hit fast forward a few times you get more than your mony's worth with this release.
