A fun movie throughout. Although I liked "Ferry Cross the Mersey" better, DC5 were good sports .

This was The Dave Clark Five's "A Hard Days's Night" if you will. It was a fun time and these guys were a far cry from on hit wonders! It's a fun little movie.

Comments about Having A Wild Weekend:

L LOVE the DC5, but this is not what I want. Only 3 songs in movie, a thin 'rich girl, working-class boy' runaway theme, and not enough focus on the band. It is good as an example of 60's styles and history, but after watching The Beatles and Herman's Hermits, it hits bottom.

Comments about Having A Wild Weekend:

Dave Clark Five material is scarce as it is. This movie, titled Catch Us If You Can in the UK, is available since 2008 on DVD in the UK, but only in region 2 format. Not much went into that transfer either. Dave Clark must not have US distribution rights as this print is obviously from the Warner vaults. The picture is enhanced to the sharpest ever (I have the UK verison and a US bootleg from VHS also) with only slight video noise near the beginning, but it goes away by the time the opening theme is done, and the soundtrack here is at the correct pitch also unlike the UK DVD. The movie is John Boormans' directing debut and is the only existing document of the DC5 in speaking roles. It's GREAT to see a young and alive Mike Smith and Dennis Payton along with the rest of the group. The plot is all over the internet so google both titles for those details. I saw this as a kid on TV in 1969 and was enthralled with the whole plot of the "Wild Weekend", especially with Barbara Ferris, and have not seen it since until earlier this year. If I had not seen it then it might not mean as much to me as it does now, but I am re-discovering the DC5 since it is so hard to get their material anywhere. The film rating itself is going to vary from viewer to viewer. This is the best quality issue of this film!! Dave Clark 5 were more underrated that I had realized, but with the lack of readily access to their material, makes it easy to forget. You have to be in collector mode to get any of their material.
