I thought the series was well made well acted with good guest stars in it. I liked that they borrowed footage in some episodes from other Warner Brothers movie classics like: The Tanks Are Coming, Sands of Iwo Jima, A Force Of Arms, To Hell and Back, Brakthrough, The Story of G.I. Joe and A Walk in the Sun. I THINK some footage might have been used from: Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo & possibly from: Twelve O'Clock High (if its a WB movie?) It was all easy for me to recognize since ive seen all these movies time and again since buying them.

This series was very enjoyable and I think the characters I liked the best were the ones played by: Eddie Fontaine (Pvt. D'Angelo) Richard X. Slattery (Staff Sergeant McKenna) William Reynolds (Captain Jim Benedict) Roland Lestarza (SP?) (Pvt. Lukevich) (SP?) and Robert McQueeny as the War Correspondant: (Conley Wright)

TO COMPARE THIS SERIES WITH combat--THE CHARACTERS OF: D'Angelo reminds me of the Jack Hogan character-S.Sgt McKenna reminded me a lot of the Vic Morrow version of Sgt. Saunders, Roland Lestarza reminded me a lot of the COMBAT character played by Shecky Greene (1st season) Robert Goffey (SP?) who played Pvt. Hansen--reminded me a bit of the Pierre Jalbert character from COMBAT--his character was Caje.

Some fo the other characters in Gallant Men--I didnt care much for but only because I dont think they got proper time in usage in the series. Other than the dvds I got--I have stoppage in one episode I think on Disc 2? and needs to be replaced.

As far as the series goes, I had never seen any episodes before of this series but could easily relate that series to COMBAT---as far as action and such goesd as well as quality and such. This series I will watch over again as much as I would COMBAT and others.

My only real problem with Gallant men--is that it didnt last more than a season like it SHOULD have and could easily have done.

Some fo the guest stars used were good choices like: George O'Hanlon (who also wrote a few episodes) Hans Gudegast (aka) Erich Braeden, Phil Carey and Van Williams used in the "Marines/Pacific ) episode, and James Doohan, George Takai and Deforrest Kelley (from Star Trek) and of course others.

I highly recommend this series added to any quality DvD collection.

It is great to finally have this series on DVD. I wish there were extra features, but that's asking a lot from a 49 year old show that lasted only one season. Since I only saw a few of the episodes in their original run, and a handful of reruns soon after, this is like seeing brand new episodes for the first time, with occasional deje vu moments of familiarity. I'm loving every minute!

Comments about Gallant Men, The: Complete Collection:

It's hard to believe that THE GALLANT MEN only lasted 26 episodes. All shows are included on this 6 disc collection. Any WW2 buff will enjoy this series. It rivals COMBAT with great action scenes. This show tells of the struggles of war and how everyday front line soldiers dealt with untold pressure. I'm glad that it is my DVD library.

Comments about Gallant Men, The: Complete Collection:

When I saw this available for sale I questioned why The Gallant Men was being made available as opposed to say Spender: For Hire, Bronco, 77 Sunset Strip, Bourbon Street Beat, Sugarfoot, Lawman, Colt:45,Hondo and others.
But much to my surprise this has been a very enjoyable TV series. Well written, well directed and familiar guest stars. The Robert Conrad episode was very good.
A motivating purchase factor was the complete series available in one package as opposed to being split up into different season sets.
Let em also commend Warners for making obscure/fan favorite series available for purchase.
          Thanks!!!!
