Ford & Fonda confirm their combined quality in an unusual film.
Beautifully located with outstanding cinematography. Center of the film is a confused priest in the middle of a barbaric chase to religion and believers. Tender scenes with a lovely indian women. Believable non Hollywood ending.

          Comments about Fugitive, The (1947):

John Ford sometimes mentioned The Fugitive among his favorites. He was particularly proud of the look of the film, and that is the picture's major strength. Gabriel Figueroa's black-and-white cinematography is among the most beautiful and powerful you will ever see and the Mexican locations take on the same haunted beauty of the faces of the performers. Of particular note is Pedro Armendariz forceful and conflicted officer. While a restored, remastered commercial DVD release with Extra Features on its interesting history would be preferred, The Fugitive is at least happily available now for fans of John Ford, or Henry Fonda.
