Comments about Dusty And Sweets Mcgee:

I've never seen DUSTY AND SWEETS MCGEE. It caught my attention in an email from Warner Bros. and when I read that it was a documentary-type drama about Los Angeles h e r o i n addicts in the 1970s, I thought it might be interesting.

I love watching documentaries -- especially periods from the 60s and 70s about real people living in either Hollywood or NYC -- and after watching the trailer on this site, I thought this would be really cool. But it was kind of a let down.

It basically just shows people getting high, scoring dope, and basically doing nothing. Some of the scenes look contrived and staged, and the movie just goes nowhere. I was hoping to see outdoor shots of Hollywood and places like that throughout the movie, which is what I love about documentary films, and even though this does show some shots of both Los Angeles and Hollywood, most of the scenes take place indoors.

Picture quality is really good, though, considering that it hasn't been remastered.

I would only recommend this to fans of the movie. If you haven't seen it before rent it first.

Maybe I've become desensitized to these types of documentary films. With show like "Intervention," HBO's "American Undercover," and the "Vanguard" show on Current TV, showing drug addicts at their worst, the people in DUSTY AND SWEETS MCGEE pale in comparison. They don't even look like addicts and seem to have a never ending supply of smack to get high on.

Comments about Dusty And Sweets Mcgee:

A spot-on early 70's drug culture film. More like a mock documentary than a "real" film. A Leonard Maltin 3 1/2 star movie that has never been released on DVD.

Comments about Dusty And Sweets Mcgee:

I'd been curious about this movie for awhile, and I was amazed when I learned of Warner Archives and their decision to release this very rare film. I bought it as soon as I could...[...] and the DVD/packaging quality was excellent. The movie itself is incredible; anyone with a passing appreciation for Floyd Mutrux and his unique style will almost certainly love this film. All I can say is that its impression is a lasting one, and not for any handful of readily identifiable reasons, but more because it brings us into contact with a complete world, and one that no longer exists. This movie is full of moments of strange power and resonance, independent of the viewer's associations (good or bad) with the subject matter. Highest recommendation.
