Obviously, the reviewer before me didn't grow up in the 80's in front of the TV on Saturday morning. I guess our expectations were lower then. We did not have the world "at our fingertips" like we do now. Video games were like that as well- we didn't know what to expect, we never had anything to reference before it. Except Dragon's Lair. With the feature film animation from Don Bluth, it was breathtaking! so we knew going in that DL for Saturday morning would be a disappointment from an animation perspective. But Ruby Spears put so much more into it. The rooms in the games had stories to them now. The dragon got a name (that is still used today). They also added some great new characters for Dirk to fight or defend. The Ravenswood Dwellers were my favorite. then add the decision breaks and it was pure Saturday morning magic!

Wow. What a disappointment. I thought this was going to be the Don Bluth video game animation, but it's only "based" on the Bluth masterpiece. In the 80's Don Bluth (who left Disney to make "The Secret of NIMH") did the animation for a story-telling arcade game called "Dragon's Lair." It was fun and beautifully drawn. Only the truly skillful could win the game by slaying the dragon, thereby seeing the entire story. I was hoping that someone had pieced together the segments of the game to produce the complete animated classic, but unfortunately this is just some lame attempt at copying the characters and style of the original. What you have here is jerky and static--typical 70's and 80's Saturday morning cartoon stuff. Don't waste your money.

I would encourage WB to release other cartoons from the 80's such as Goldie Gold, the Pound Puppies, as well as others from this period

Comments about Dragon's Lair: The Complete Series (2-Disc Set):

The show was an interpretation of the adventures of Dirk the Daring introduced through the coin-op game of the same name. Part of the appeal was that the show kept with the "you choose Dirk's fate" from the game when it went to commercials (correct moves advance the game whereas bad moves end Dirk's life). a shame it lasted only one season

Comments about Dragon's Lair: The Complete Series (2-Disc Set):

I got this as a rememberance of the TV show. The show was as bad as I remembered it, but the quality of the product was great. My kids (8, 6, and 4) love it, and I loved subjecting them to it. It's not a great cartoon, and at times not even good, but if you remember it, or like the "game" on which it's based, pick it up!
