Another awesome transfer by WB. The picture is brighter and the colors are much more vibrant than the previous release. I'm curious though - If WB was going to take the time to remaster this movie like they have, why didn't they just transfer it to blu-ray? I think it would make an excellent blu-ray transfer. I noticed from the git-go that the title of the movie as well as the credits looked sharper in contrast. For some reason this movie reminds me of a Quin-Martin production. I guess its just that early 70s style. In all, this is a great transfer and I'm glad I upgraded. By the way, if you like this movie, i would highly recommend going to the theater to see the new DBAOTD that is playing now. The story is somewhat changed, but the story is much more elaborate and its filled with nail-biting suspense!

I vaguely remember this movie as a kid, and what a faulty memory I must have had! This was terrible! Not scary at all! Mostly they exposed the demons way too early and they looked like bad Muppets. No suspense and bad acting. Obviously scary TV in the 70s had a certain lacking, except for Trilogy of Terror. I can't believe I paid for this.

Comments about Don't Be Afraid of the Dark - Special Edition:

This is the worst movie commentary I have ever heard. They claimed to love this film but all they did was criticize and make fun of it. It was extremely unprofessional and very offensive.

This is a great remaster of a TV movie classic. It looks and sounds better than it ever has. The commentary track was a hoot. Park your family on the couch and grab a bowl of popcorn.

I remember watching this as a kid. I couldn't sleep for weeks. I always wanted to see it again and WB made it possible. Thank you WB. This is the best TV Movie ever. I've watched it 5 times as of now.

Comments about Don't Be Afraid of the Dark - Special Edition:

Of course it was scarier when I was a kid, but I never forgot this story and it was one I liked the best. The re-make reminded me of it, so I was more than excited to find it on your website. It just HAD to become part of my collection, then to compliment it, I purchased the re-make. Excellent job on the remaster, it is a beautiful peice and one I will treasure with the rest of my collection!!

Comments about Don't Be Afraid of the Dark - Special Edition:

I haven't yet seen the remake of this movie, but I'm sure it doesn't have the atmosphere the original did. Because this was a "made-for-TV" movie, the writers/director had to rely on story and character development rather than gore and shock. Right after I originally saw this movie (first run - I'm old), we moved into a home with a fireplace. For almost a year I refused to be in that room alone - LOL! Great movie, wish there were more extras on the DVD though (ie: deleted scenes, making of, etc.).

Comments about Don't Be Afraid of the Dark - Special Edition:

The 70's had a terrific output of imaginative Thriller/Horror/SciFi TV movies, this being a memorable entry, with Trilogy of Terror, Bad Ronald and many others. The remaster is substantially upgraded from the previous version--in fact it's up there with any DVD transfer I've ever seen. And as an added bonus, the remaster features a very amusing commentary between a couple of enthusiasts--banter might be a better description, but very funny nevertheless.

This was a made for TV Movie that terrified me when I was a kid. I never knew the name of the movie but the story stuck with me. When I found it I had to get it so I could see if it was what I remembered. It was. Not really scary to an adult but was fun to watch again.
