Confessions Of A Nazi Spy (MOD)

The story is a brisk connect-the-dots tale that ties German-American Bund operatives (Francis Lederer, George Sanders and Paul Lukas among others) to Berlin. Chief among those connecting the dots: FBI Agent Edward Renard (Edward G. Robinson).

Comments about Confessions Of A Nazi Spy (MOD):

Studio produced propaganda to further national industrial and political policy. And fine evidence post Eisenstein montage work. These are not the best in house montage work. This film, came at the the end of the golden era of studio montage departments. I don't think the post Weimar Government knew what kind of a media terror storm they were going to encounter from Hollywood. Why did they not think the Jewish American producers in Los Angeles would not unleash every tool that they had? They should have stopped right after Hitler was sent to prison.

Interesting to a limited audience. This film was made before WW II. Did the producers know something the rest of the country didn't know?

Comments about Confessions Of A Nazi Spy (MOD):

The print is quite damaged, really 'average image',black levels were 'fair' from time to time, sharp also, but the audio track is quite ok. It's uneven in spots, with some softness and scratches!...
But watchable print for a very good Film!
The film source print is in need of restoration for sure!.

Comments about Confessions Of A Nazi Spy (MOD):

This is an important movie in that Warner Brothers made a moral decision to show the danger of the Nazi threat which had engulfed Europe and was a strong movement in the United States. In doing so, they lost a major movie market (Germany) and made a principled stance against facism.
The movie is well made. There is an excellent script based on the first prosecution of Nazi spys in the United States. The story is supported by an outstanding cast. Edward G Robinson, George Sanders and many others contribute to make "Confessions of a Nazi Spy" an important historical movie every American should see. The ending should be shown to every American. What the movie was warning us about could happen again. I hope our entertainment industry will have the courage and honor Warner Brother did if, God forbid, another "warning" is necessary. So, enjoy this entertaining and important movie. It is well worth your time.

t's a great transfer but do the extras WB has put on previous dvd's such as trailers, newsreels, etc. and hope that's available when downloads get more popular.
Chapter heading are good but abandoned here. Headings are good because one can get on to screen after seeing the movie.

Comments about Confessions Of A Nazi Spy (MOD):

"Confessions of a Nazi Spy" is a fabulous and very early anti-Nazi movie. The 1939 classic has a wonderful cast, especially Edward G. Robinson.

Warner Bros. Archive needs to do a better job of quality checking their movies before they ship them out to customers. I have had a number of DVD's, including this one, that I had to return to WB for replacement because the movie was not properly burned onto the disc and would not play on any of my DVD players.
