Bret Maverick: The Complete Series

James Garner returns to his signature role, as the affable grifting gambler. BRET MAVERICK sees the king of cardsharps getting tied down and trying to play it respectable - almost! After winning a saloon in a high-stakes poker game, Bret sets down roots, and partners up with an upright ex-sheriff. But rogues win out, and Bret still schemes and stirs up trouble, despite the sheriff’s best efforts.

Comments about Bret Maverick: The Complete Series:

"Bret Maverick" is another one of those "brilliant, but cancelled" series which has only improved with age. Inexplicably, only 17 episodes were made of this fine series. "Bret Maverick" is a sequel to the original "Maverick" series, and it features James Garner as Bret, but an older, and perhaps wiser Bret, who has finally decided to settle down. As someone else here has posted, "Bret Maverick" combines the best of everything a James Garner fan could want, some "Maverick," some "Nichols," and even some "Rockford" as it. Jack Kelly, retired as an actor and then an actual elected official in Southern California, returns as Bart for a couple of episodes. James Garner has done some great work over the years, but for me, nothing beats "Maverick," whether it is the original series or this fine sequel.

Comments about Bret Maverick: The Complete Series:

This is a fun series that brings back the best of James Garner. Not only does he provide us with a lot of fun in this short series, but it reminded me of his original portrayal of the gambler. My wife and I both like Garner and this role is perfect for him. The only shortcoming is that it didn't last longer, but still having this available is wonderful.

Comments about Bret Maverick: The Complete Series:

All I can say about this great product is....It's about time !!! This sequel series to the great original shows a older and wiser Bret Maverick attempting to settle down in the town of Sweetwater, Arizona after years of "polishing a saddle". His interactions with the local townsfolk and his desire to remain low profile as this town tries to absorb this colorful and troublesome personality make for a great series. This show is like a combo of the original, Rockford, and Nichols with elements of all of them. James Garner is perfect, as always, with a wonderful cast of Ed Bruce, Darleen Carr, Ramon Bieri,Jack Garner, Luis Delgrado, Richard Hamiliton, and, of course, Stuart Margolin. It was a real shame it was not renewed for a second season, especially since Jack Kelly as brother Bart was to join the cast for the new season. It's ratings were good enough, so go figure. However, you cannot go wrong with this show, especially if you are a Maverick fan.
