Comments about Americanization of Emily, The (BD):

Paddy Chayefsky's superb social commentary on the futility of war is a winner through and through. Andrews and Garner are perfectly cast as the awkward Brit/Yank couple; her pert young Miss pitted against his brash, dashing coward. Melvyn Douglas and James Coburn offer amiable assist, but this is really the Julie/James show.

Also notable, the sublime Joyce Grenfell as the war widow shell-shocked back into the present by Garner's cruel kindness. There's not a false note in the acting, nor in the screenplay. If you've never seen it, you are in for a treat. If you've always loved it you'll want to snatch up this Blu-ray: a superior mastering effort of a truly underrated American classic. Buy today. Treasure forever.

Comments about Americanization of Emily, The (BD):

This is a wonderful movie if you like older classics. James Garner and Julie Andrews fall in love despite trying to avoid it. They both put in a wonderful showing but there are a few slow times in the movie that distract you from the overall performances. I watch this movie once in a while because it is not depressing but a joy if you can get into it.
