Hello Again Mr Chips
Comments about Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939):
"What a nice one it is!" claimed the N Y Times in its initial review on release in 1939. "Mr. Chips is worth its time." These words undermine a very special film that 70+ years on has lost none of its magical appeal. Many oscar nominations incl Best Picture, Director, Actress (Greer Garson) and Robert Donat beat Clark Gable's Rhett Butler as Best Actor. If you don't own it, grab this opportunity as it is now re issued by Warner Archive. A must-have classic from MGM's Golden Age. Yet another absolute classic release amongst a whole lot of largely non-event films. Ranks with Great Waltz, Maytime, San Francisco, Boom Town, Mrs Miniver, Random Harvest, Waterloo Bridge & Blossoms in the Dust as the very best from MGM's iconic golden years. 5 stars? Naturally
