Front Page Woman

Bette Davis and George Brent are locked in a more-than-friendly rivalry in this comedic romp about two competing reporters who would rather work on their stories than their relationship.

Comments about Front Page Woman:

The print is not so bad still there are lots of white specks, a few bad frames, and image quite damaged, but contrast and black level are quite good regarding the age of the "film".
However the audio track comes with one minor issue:" very noisy" but at least clear enough.
So still very watchable print.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

        Comments about Front Page Woman:

I have seen this film before and am glad to see that Warner Archive will be releasing it on DVD this month! I would definitely like to have it in my collection, especially since I am a fan of the Bette Davis-George Brent pairing! I hope that Warner Archive will consider releasing the Davis- Brent film Secret Agent at some point as well since I have never been able to see it, and it is from around the same time that they made Front Page Woman.

This movie is a lighthearted romantic comedy which I think is very entertaining. Davis and Brent are in love and they are also both reporters. They are competing to top each other on the same news story. Brent wants to marry Davis, so he makes a deal with her that if he gets the major scoop on the story before she does, that she will quit her job and marry him (it seems unfair that she would have to quit her job, since she doesn't really want to, but this is the '30s and that was often expected of women when they married). She agrees to this deal, but things don't go exactly as planned. I won't give away much more of the plot than that, but I will tell you that Davis is an intelligent and feisty young woman in this film, and will not lose to Brent without a fight.

This film was made after Of Human Bondage, so Davis was already a rising star because of that film, but it is from before she made Dangerous and won an Oscar. Despite this being relatively early in her career, she already has the attitude and charisma that Davis fans would come to love. If you are a fan of hers, I think you will enjoy her in this film, even if it is lightweight and not as meaty as some of her later roles. Davis and Brent are very cute together too, so if you are a fan of this pairing, I think you will like this film as well.
