This is a great Saturday afternoon movie. Lee is one of the greatest villains of all time here and Nigel Green is fantastic as Nayland Smith, Fu Manchu's arch enemy and epitome of British heroism. This movie isn't worried about anything but a good pulpy action adventure yarn. A great fun time.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Avid Moviegoer
PROJECTING THE AURA AND MYSTIQUE OF THE SAX ROHMER CREATION, THIS WAS THE FIRST OF FIVE FU MANCHU FILMS FOR CHRISTOPHER LEE AND CLEARLY ONE OF THE BEST. HONORING THE TIME OF THE ROHMER STORIES WITH THE GLOSS OF COLOR, THE FACE OF FU MANCHU FINDS NIGEL GREEN'S SIR DENNIS NAYLAND SMITH WITNESSING THE GOOD DOCTOR'S EXECUTION, ONLY TO LATER SUSPECT HIS MALEVOLENT PRESENCE WHEN SCIENTIST WALTER RILLA DISAPPEARS. WITH FEW CLUES AVAILABLE, INCLUDING THE INSIGHTS OF DAUGHTER KARIN DOR, GREEN SHADOWS THROUGH THE UNDERCURRENT, DISCOVERING DR. FU IN AN ISOLATED WAREHOUSE, ATTENDED BY DEVOTED AND EQUALLY INSIDIOUS DAUGHTER TSAI CHIN IN A MALEVOLENT SCHEME TO UNVEIL A LETHAL POTION, ULTIMATELY ON THE WORLD. ALL OF THE ROHMER ELEMENTS ARE PRESENT UNDER DON SHARP'S CLEVER DIRECTION, AND THIS FILM SETS THE STANDARD FOR THE ADVENTURES TO COME. CHRISTOPHER LEE CLEARLY ENGRAVED HIS PORTRAYAL WITH BORIS KARLOFF AND WERNER OLAND IN PREVIOUS INCARNATIONS. THE ENTIRE CAST DELIVERS EXCELLENT PERFORMANCES, ESPECIALLY HOWARD MARION CRAWFORD AS DR. PETRIE AND GREEN IN AN INTENSE READING OF THE NAYLAND SMITH DETECTIVE CHARACTER.

The World will hear from me again!
from Phoenix, AZ
without question the best of the Fu Manchu films, 'The Face of Fu Manchu' is a gripping period suspense film pitting Sax Rohmer's infamous villain against the indefatigable Sir Dennis Nayland Smith (here of Scotland Yard). From the opening scene of Fu Manchu's exectution in China to the race-against-time finale in a Tibetan castle, the script moves along at a gripping pace. While the story is only 'inspired by' Rohmer's novels, unlike most of the sequels, this one manages to have that authentic Rohmer ring about it. The supporting turns from H. Marion Crawford and Tam Ling as Dr Petrie and Lin Tang respectively are superb and this one has the benefit of the stalwart Nigel Greene as Nayland Smith, a role he attacks with determined intensity. Christopher Lee, of course, adds another of literature's greatest villains to his repertoire and he is fantastic as the cold calculating Devil Doctor.
