      Comments about Slave, The:

The home office in Hollywood ordered the MGM coffers emptied abroad sending into release a number of Italian productions. Among them a few sand and sandle epics made it across the waves. This one is distinguished from the others due to the startling find of the sixties, Steve Reeves. Therefore, this is pretty ordinary stuff so watch it for Reeves alone.

Or rather The son of Spartacus One of Steve Reeves
better Romps in his Sword & Sandal career. This one
takes place some 20 years after his legendary father
met his fate Reeves picks up where papa left off by
by becoming the masked (helmeted) venger of freedom
while altering as high ranking Roman Soldier. lots of great cinemaphotography for a Film of this sort
and great use of Egyptian local. Extra Violent for
its kind of genre (sports what I'm sure is the 1st decapitation via sword during Reeves night break
at film's end) But all in all a treat for all fans
of Matinee adventures The film looks great in it's
letterbox format of 2.40 the night shots are a tad
unfocused in spots and there are some good overhead
shots to boot and anyone who disagrees will be toss
to the marangas! Note: Reeves servant/exslave buddy
looks more like Kirk Douglas than Reeves character.

              Comments about Slave, The:

Beautiful DVD transfer of a film in a genre not usually one to benefit from film preservation, the Sword and Sandle Epic. This particular film features gorgeous location photography of many famous sites in Egypt. Do not expect great acting. Do expect (for this genre) the requisite bad dialogue dubbing and a fine source for camp humor.
