Comments about Bugs Bunny Superstar (DVD):

I postponed purchasing this, even as an avid Looney Tunes collector, figuring I already owned it (in two halves) on the LT Golden Collection Volume 4. Even considering film by film, it seemed extraneous: "The Old Grey Hare" is a great cartoon, for sure, but I already own it on "The Essential Bugs Bunny" DVD, Golden Collection Vol. 5, Golden Collection Vol. 4 (as part of BB Superstar), and Platinum Collection 1 Blu-Ray.

I finally ordered it on sale, and was delighted to discover that I was getting more than I thought: an optional commentary track by director Larry Jackson and a slideshow of stills. The commentary by Jackson is not the scene-specific type a la Beck on the Golden Collections, but the story of how the project came about. There is interesting information regarding the participation of Robert Clampett and Orson Welles (2 controversial figures) and the official WB opinion of the project.

If I had known about the commentary (which is not included in the 2-part LTGC4 version) I would have ordered this much earlier, but that probably only applies to serious collectors like me.

Comments about Bugs Bunny Superstar (DVD):

I use to have this recorded on a VHS tap when I was younger but unfortunately lost that VHS tape when I saw that it was available on DVD it made me extremely happy and excited that a nostalgic piece of childhood was available to me

the only downside about this special which has transcended from my childhood to now is that I always wished it was a little bit longer but that didn't make viewing this documentary masterpiece any less enjoyable

in conclusion to anyone who has been a fan of these cartoons since they were little I highly recommend this product as a very important piece that must be added to their collection which without would definitely be considered incomplete

Comments about Bugs Bunny Superstar (DVD):

While I have most of the cartoons in this video from before, having recorded them off of tv years ago, I am glad I ordered this DVD-R recording of BUGS BUNNY SUPERSTAR since this documentary has fun home movies of the old animaters as well as comments from Friz Freling, Tex Avery and Bob Clampett, all animation directers of the classic Looney Tunes and Clampett hosts this movie! And Orson Wells narrated. Besides the remastering for vibrant picture quality this disc also has the bonus feature length commentary by Larry Jackson who produced and directed the documentary materal that appears inbetween the cartoon shorts! Mr Jackson made the point that just having the cartoons back to back as a feature could become tiring for some since they were made to be seen separatly! My mother made that point to me when I showed her several classic Bugs and Daffy cartoons together! I think she would have enjoyed the material showing the artists at play at studio and storyboard sketches and model sheets. One film shows Tex Avery pretending to be a boy scarecrow trying to scare away a crow who was performed by a storyman or animater. I remember watching that cartoon so it was fun to see Avery acting it out! While I found the motion comics BATGIRL YEAR ONE and MAD LOVE entertaining with their video effects, this BUGS BUNNY SUPERSTAR with it's full hand drawn character animation really shows just how special and valuable hand drawn animation can be, as well as VERY FUNNY!! The only criticism I had at the time I saw it in the theater was that there are so many classic Looney Tunes cartoons, many classic ones got left out! What about THE GREAT PIGGY BANK ROBBERY starring Daffy Duck as Detective Duck Twacy or RACKETEER RABBIT starring Bugs Bunny who was up against Edward G. Robinson and Peter Lorre! They are not in this show along with others left out that I showed my mother who had sadly passed away at age 91 earlier this year in 2012! But the show ends with the classic OLD GREY HARE starring Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd and they both become old in the year 2000 AD.!! Now it is 2012 so we then see that the funny feud of Bugs and Elmer will go on forever into the 21st century as we age along with them! The audio commentary reveals the various problems Jackson had in getting this movie together and promoted! I wish this dvd had scene selection like in THE 7 FACES OF DR.LAO DVD-R disc I got earlier from the Warner Archive! I'll have to find the chapter stops with the number buttons on my remote for the shorts and scenes in the movie to be able to skip around from scene to scene! But if you have many of the classic Warner Brother cartoons this is a very good addition to your collection with it's fun and informative material on the making of these cartoons! It really answers the question,"WHAT'S UP DOC!"
