Comments about Barcelona:

Although the film is distorted by reason of reproduction, it's still worth the $, especially when I'm aware of what I'm paying for. I have seen this this picture obscenely overpriced. When I noticed WB Archive offered it, I seized the opportunity and have added a copy to my very own personal collection. Happiness is owning a copy of Barcelona!

Whit Stillman reminds me of the Canadian singing sisters, Kate & Anna McGarrigle. The duet released a little over 1/2 dozen albums in the course of a nearly fifty year singing career. They were careful to produce a near perfect product. The emphasis was clearly placed upon quality, vs. quantity. Stillman works in a similarly discriminate mode. He is not prolific by any means, nor does he crank out schlock for dollars. He is an intelligent craftsman with a sharp wit and an appetite for unusual subject matter. He allows the viewing audience a glimpse into the rarified air of American upper social strata. His films, with the exception of his latest effort are captivating with a minimum of action. He is probably better suited as a stage dramatist, than a movie maker. Fortunately for me, and other fans of his movies, his fine work is made easily available through DVDs. Thank God for small favors.
Cordially,
Dennis H.
