Entertaining thriller with a top notch cast. The story revolves around the reincarnation of the evil queen Kara and heaven help anyone who gets in her way! The deaths are violent and well staged much like the deaths in "The Omen". Beautifully photographed by Jack Cardiff with a sumptuous and evocative score by Claude Bolling. Action fans will find it slow going but fans of a good thriller will be pleased.

A guilty pleasure for me since 1980. Great music score by Claude Bolling, fine cinematography by Jack Cardiff. Acting by Charlton Heston and Susannah York is servicable, but the roles weren't well-developed. An early effort by now-renowned director Mike Newell was a misstep, but the early Egyptian tomb sequences are creepy and suspenseful. Recommended with large caveats.

    Comments about The Awakening (1980):

Top notch performances from Charlton Heston and Susannah York highlight this extremely well-made and suspenseful horror yarn from director Mike Newell. WB's transfer is first-rate and this hidden treasure (pardon the pun) has never looked better.

        Comments about The Awakening (1980):

This is a classic movie that I remember first seeing at a drive-in. I clearly recall being impressed by Heston's acting, and Stephanie Zimbalist's exotic beauty in the Egyptian makeup at the end. It's not so novel now, the plot has been borrowed and replayed many times over the years. Stiil, I think this movie did it best.

          Comments about The Awakening (1980):

I was pleased to see this little gem get an official DVD release. It's just unfortuante that no one bothered to clean up the transfer. Yes, it's a bit long, things move sluggishly, but it's by far not your typical mummy movie. My father took me to see this in the theater, so I have a soft spot for it.

This is a movie that I was somewhat disappointed with when I first saw it, but wanted to see it again. 32 yrs later, I enjoyed it much more.

The print is excellent and the sound is fine. The colors are vibrant, and the scenes in the desert are wonderful.

Great movie, that was never properly advertised. A movie for all horror buffs, especially those who can enjoy a movie without all the gore and computer generated special effects of today's movies.
