Down-and-out Londoner Ernie Mott makes the best of things – finding love here, dabbling in crime there. Still, there’s a core of decency in Ernie. But a world of poverty and despair has little use for decency. Cary Grant plays Ernie in a milestone work set just before World War II. Gone is the usual Grant elegance. Instead, wistful Cockney Ernie is closer to the star’s ’umble roots and Grant took great pride in his performance, which earned him an Academy Award® nomination as Best Actor. He also helped lure Ethel Barrymore back to Hollywood, and she responded vibrantly with 1944’s Oscar®-winning Best Supporting Actress portrayal of Ernie’s dying mother. Let the moods of this masterwork wash over you. In its ebb and flow you’ll find a moving eloquence close to the heart of the film’s leading man.

The video quality was far better than expected! It was amazing regarding the age of the Movie!
The picture quality is excellent: very clear picture, deep black and sound is great. However the print is not flawless!
I have been waiting for this film to come out for so long! Thanks WB Archive!
I would highly recommend this Film for any G.Grant's fan ( one of his best performance!) and fan of Classic Films.

Comments about None But The Lonely Heart (DVD, Remastered):
After watching a VHS copy of this film picked up from the public library way back in 1993/94, I thought I might never see this one again. Nearly all other Cary Grant films made it to DVD in the states but this one was oddly absent. Imagine my shock when a co-worker pointed out that a new Cary Grant film was being released by Warner Archives. I peered over his shoulder and when I saw what it was - along with the "remastered" tag - I spun around to my own desk and ordered a copy right away.
The remastered edition of "None But The Lonely Heart" does not disappoint. I watched it on a 32" LCD, using my PlayStation 3 which upconverts the video. Black levels were rich, details are nice a crisp, and even the audio track was bright and clean. For a film that is close to 70 years old, Warner did a fantastic job cleaning this masterpiece up.
Why do I call it a masterpiece? Aside from a handful of his later roles (Charade, North by Northwest, Father Goose, etc.) this is one of Cary Grant's finest performances. Not his usual suave and sophisticated self, Grant shows a more human; more down to earth side of himself. The story is elegant and rich as is the supporting cast.
The only downside to the disc is the lack of subtitles. Much of the dialogue is delivered quickly and contains a cockney accent. Being able to read the subtitles would really help. I found myself backing up and replaying a scene over several times to try to pick up what was being said. Overall, however, this isn't a huge problem.
In closing, all I can say is that if you are a Cary Grant fan then you owe it to yourself to own a copy of this film. If you are a fan or student of classic cinema this film belongs in your collection.
NOTE: I marked "adult viewers" simply because of the nature of classic films. The acting tells the story rather than flashy effects. I would imagine that most kids/teens would be bored with the story.

Comments about None But The Lonely Heart (DVD, Remastered):
A very different kind of Cary Grant...and one of his best performances ever. He and Ethel Barrymore transfix the viewer, and it's no wonder she won the Oscar for this.
A film that deserves to be better known, I think one of the reasons it's remained obscure is due to the way it used it look when you could see it on TV. Soft, grimy, ugly.
This DVD is a revelation. It's almost like watching a different film, the quality is so heads and tails better than when its shown on the Turner channel. Just superb quality!
