Synopsis:

A rain-swollen lake. A small town dependent on fishing revenues. A rivulet of water seeping through the rocks beneath an earthen dam. These are the suspense-generating ingredients of this onrushing, all-star Irwin Allen production. A helicopter pilot (Robert Culp) and a youngster (Eric Olson) first discover the dam’s leaky secret. But local leaders refuse to face the drain on the town’s troubled economy that draining the lake would cause. A high-and-dry solution is not in the cards. Martin Milner, Barbara Hershey, Richard Basehart, Cameron Mitchell, Teresa Wright and two stars of Allen’s smash The Poseidon Adventure, Carol Lynley and Roddy McDowall, all try to keep afloat when the wall of water hits and the special effects kick into high gear. Take a dive into the raging currents of this topflight adventure.

Comments about Flood (DVD):

This is a great, too infrequently seen (uncredited) Irwin Allen production that admittedly was made for TV.

Still, it has all the Allen trademarks - a variety of good stars playing roles you care about, the uncaring authority figures who don't recognize the danger and the rogue with the heart of gold who does.

A bit trite perhaps, but Robert Culp and Teresa Wright bring their best acting chops to their roles, as does a post-"Emergency!" Martin Milner.

Thanks to Warner Archive for making this available on DVD, as it was only formerly available on an ancient VHS release.

Comments about Flood (DVD):

Typical plot: the mayor ignores bad reports on the dam that is the financial life blood of his community. He's warned about it. It lets go. People die. A '70s disaster film that fits the genre. It is fun to watch if you like this type of movie.
