The time: the 22nd century. The place: the Confederacy, a matriarchy where men are enslaved and impotent. The hero: Dylan Hunt (John Saxon), a handsome, vigorous 20th-century scientist awakened from suspended animation – just the “breeder” a Confederacy dominatrix (Diana Muldaur) has been waiting for! In this sequel to Genesis II, Gene Roddenberry (Star Trek) puts a reverse spin on women’s lib in an action-filled tale set in a gleaming world of futuristic cities, underground sub shuttles, palm-sized computers and skintight uniforms. Can Hunt defy the Confederacy and free his downtrodden fellow males, or is he doomed to slavery on Planet Earth?

I loved this story line. I wish there were more episodes of this series.
Comments about Planet Earth (1974) (DVD):
Second failed pilot about Dylan Hunt and PAX is an improvement over "Genesis II," with an emphasis on action and less philosophizing. The exposition is short - Dylan's origin story from the first film is the same - but this helps to quickly move the PAX team on to its next mission. The potential for an on-going series is certainly evident. John Saxon in the lead is energetic and determined, with physical prowess to match. The rest of the cast fares well, making the viewer want to know these characters better. Diana Muldaur portrays the main antagonist with an appropriate edge and toughness without sacrificing vulnerability. The main social issue of the story (female dominance after centuries of male oppression) still has relevancy and the PAX team manages to maintain its pacifistic integrity even when violence becomes necessary in self-defense.
Comments about Planet Earth (1974) (DVD):
Gene Roddenberry tried three times to get his 1970's series off the ground. All three are avalible from the WB Archive. This is the second pilot. I had only seen this run on television one time. I was really surprised to see that it was filmed in widescreen! I guess after the TV failure of the previous pilot, Genesis II, they hoped for a theatrical European release... or something. Unfortunately of all the plotlines though up for Genesis II, this was the weakest storyline they could have picked. The budget for the production is limited. They rushed to make use of the standing sets from the previouly failed pilot. The quality of the print is excelent for how old it is, and to see a Gene Roddenberry production in widescreen is way cool!
Comments about Planet Earth (1974) (DVD):
This was Roddenberry's 2nd try at "Genesis II." I thought this was much better and more exciting. John Saxon did a great job as the team commander. This show was like "Star Trek" without being in space. To bad it did not get picked up for a series. I have read it got dropped to produce the "Planet of the Apes" series instead.

This is a great MOD DVD from Warner Archive. The DVD is very well done and the sound is great. I've always been a John Saxon fan. He's great. I thank Warner Archive for bringing back alot of these old mad for tv movies on MOD. Let's hope Warner will put out Alice, Life Goes On and Chips on MOD. Thanks.

Comments about Planet Earth (1974) (DVD):
Plays like episodes 2 & 3 of the proposed Genesis II series, minus Alex Cord's great take on the Dylan Hunt character. OK stuff and maybe worth a look for old school sci-fi fans, but nothing special. Saxon gives us his typical brooding performance. His looks and acting style fit a villainous character much better than the good guy.

Origional was good, this story was changed a good bit and diff actors, looks like a T.V. pilot (2 episodes put together) that was not picked-up.

Ain't so great attempt at version 2.0 to satisfy the 70's network criteria, not that much has changed 40 years later either

This was the second try for Dylan Hunt. PAX, the Trank Guns, the Subway System and Ted Cassidy are still there but the storyline fails again. This is one for the die hard Fans. They finally get it right in the 1990s.
