“My name is Dylan Hunt. My story begins the day on which I died.” Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, brings fans another enthralling tale of the future. Set in a time between now and the era of the starship Enterprise, Genesis II follows Hunt (Alex Cord), who awakes after 154 years of suspended animation into a post-apocalyptic world that’s torn between the peace-loving citizens of Pax and the militaristic, mutant Tyranians. Both want Hunt to join their cause. But the Tyranians have two cruel weapons to persuade Hunt: a device of torture called a stim. And an alluring mutant (Mariette Hartley) with two navels…and one ice-cold heart.

Comments about Genesis II (DVD):
First failed pilot about the exploits of Dylan Hunt and PAX is an entertaining snapshot of social concerns of the 1970s. Production values are limited, but resourcefully used, and the setup has potential for an episodic series. Alex Cord lacks warmth as the lead and supporting characters don't have much depth, but Mariette Hartley does a fine job in the most complex role of the feature. The future architecture, technology, and fashions can elicit some smiles at how the real world has progressed, but there is a sense of urgency and noble struggle that pushes the story to a thought-provoking conclusion about the value of even a single human life.

Comments about Genesis II (DVD):
I remember watching this on television in the 70's and have always wanted a copy of it once the magic of home video and then DVD became possible. It was a pilot Gene Roddenberry made twice once with this cast and once with John Saxon and called Earth II. Neither sold. Watching it now, brings lots of memories and good times.

Comments about Genesis II (DVD):
I faw this as a kid in the 70's, and since it was by Gene Rodenberry, it had to be good, right? About all I remembered was Mariette Hartley's two navels and the cool underground train.
Saddly, those are still about the only high points of this pilot. It does act as a great time capsule of 1970's TV science fiction and the ideas (and ideals) of a future post war society. Not to mention the poor production values.
Comments about Genesis II (DVD):
Gene Roddenberry had an epic vision for a 'helping to rebuild society after a disaster' series. He tried to sell the idea in three pilots (all three are in the WB Archive) and this was the first. It has the biggest budget of the three, which is not huge, but it does have one very cool gigantic standing set. In the story the main character "Dylan Hunt" as played here by Alex Cord (of TV's Emergency fame) gets suspended in time in an experiment, just as distaster strikes the rest of the outside world. Later he is discovered by the peace loving people of PAX. There are a few interesting shots of various other new Earth cultures we probably would have seen if the series had ever been produced. The quality of the print is Ok to good. There are some scratches in places. It is a bit rough at the start. The story is pretty interesting compared to the other two pilots which followed. If you like Gene Roddenberry's other productions you should add this to your collection!

Comments about Genesis II (DVD):
Bought this quite a while back. Glad to see the folks at WB finally re-do the lame original cover. Much better! The story really stuck with me when I saw this during sci-fi week on one of our local TV station's weekday afternoon movie program. I loved the idea of being trapped in time and what it would be like to be the only one from another place and how you would have to adjust to the future. I loved Alex Cord and it was a real shame he didn't continue the role in Earth II and Strange New World. Nothing against John Saxon, but Alex Cord made a better Dylan Hunt. His looks & performance give the character a sense of innocence that Saxon's dark brooding nature simply cannot capture. Sure nice to see this great slice of old school sci-fi from the 70's again. Thanks WB!
Comments about Genesis II (DVD):
This is the best of the 3 "New World" failed pilots. Everything about shouted out to be a series, but TPTB wanted it re and reretooled until it was nothing like this treasure. Good picture. Good sound (no audible interferrence), Casting was spot on and the picture, though a bit soft is clear and quite viewable.
