A wall of fear separates the Forbidden Forest from the rest of the Amazon jungle. Tribesmen say a mysterious Bird Girl wields strange magic there and death awaits outsiders who invade her realm. But fear and rumors cannot stop a desperate political exile named Abel, drawn there by the lure of gold and by an ominous mission: kill the Bird Girl. A tender tale of romantic adventure unfolds amid the primal splendor of Green Mansions, based on the novel by William Henry Hudson and filmed in part among the scenic forests, vales and waterways of Venezuela and Colombia. Audrey Hepburn plays Rima the Bird Girl and Anthony Perkins is Abel. Each is a stranger to the other’s world. Love may soon invite them to share a far better one.

In this WB Archive program some M.G.M Print are Superb:"the Swan","Party Girl","the Man with a cloak".
Once again "Green Mansions" print (a M.G.M presentation) is beautiful. This is another competent DVD transfer. Detail is excellent, clarity pleasing and contrast handled with quite good precision. The color-scheme is also very convincing - blues, greens, grays, blacks and whites look rich. The audio track is clear, and clean. WB Archive has done well without any restoration!
If you love "A.Hepburn", "Cinemascope",and "colorful story"! this DVD is for your eyes!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Comments about Green Mansions (DVD):
I've always read that this movie bombed at the boxoffice in 1959, but I just cannot figure how that could have happened. It has EVERYTHING!! Our beloved Audrey Hepburn IS the bird girl Rima, never more vulnerable or enchanting...NO OTHER actress could have played it so well. She has instant, palpable chemistry with Anthony Perkins...the amazon tribesmen are very authentic, Henry Silva giving a virtuosic performance as the tribal chief's hate-ridden son. Warner Archive, as always, delivers the goods in a gorgeous widescreen technicolor print. (when the movie was released in the 1980's on VHS,it was pan and scan, so WA's widescreen release is a revelation, finally allowing us to see every inch of the spectacular cinemascope)...the film's beautiful musical score is the icing on the cake...so if the film was too far ahead of its time in 1959, that does not matter now!! No Audrey fan can be without it...
THANKS, again, to the wonderful Warner Archive.

Comments about Green Mansions (DVD):
Mel Ferrer directs Audrey Hepburn (his wife at the time) in her most unusual role: Rima the bird girl from Wm. Henry Hudson's famous, Amazon jungle romance novel. There's sumptuous scope scenery from location units in Venezuela, Colombia and British Guiana - worth the price of admission on it's own. It's one big exotic set piece for a misfit casting call of camp proportions; still, it's a captivating adventure by any standard. The score by Bronislau Kaper is a highlight, and the film is presented with it's original stereophonic soundtrack. Tony Perkins sings the title song, for what that's worth. A unique MGM production no matter how you judge it, and this WB Archive presentation does it digital justice with a fine print!
