Torch singer Petey Brown is beautiful and smart. The beautiful gets her in trouble. She’ll need all of the smart to get out of it in this bluesy, boozy noir salute to tough dames in tough times. On a holiday visit to her family in the waning days of World War II, Petey expects a merry Christmas. Instead she gets a tangled web of mobsters, cheating wives, war-traumatized vets and the kind of love that grabs hold fast and goes wrong faster. Ida Lupino portrays Petey, scoring a triumph under the direction of Raoul Walsh, who helped put her on the road to stardom in the Bogart classic High Sierra. The Man I Love is also notable for its songbook of sophisticated standards and as the inspiration for Martin Scorsese’s New York, New York.

ARE YOU KIDDING?
A Great Film for sure, poor quality for sure too!
I expected better than that. The print is quite damaged, really 'poor image',black levels were 'fair' from time to time, sharp not really, and even the audio track is not so good. It's uneven in spots, with some softness and scratches! It was a great disappointment.
A Fantastic movie who need 'a huge restoration'.
Thanks to Ida Lupino who is absolutely fabulous i still enjoy a little bit the film!
So now you know!
MOVIE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED DVD NOT SO MUCH !

Comments about Man I Love, The (DVD):
They just don't get tougher than Ida Lupino. She plays a New York night club singer who goes home to visit her family...and straighten out all their (and their neighbors's) problems. In no time at all she has a job at a swanky night club, and sleezy Robert Alda is putting the moves on her; he gets put in his place, but quick. Great 40's atmosphere, and wonderful Warners supporting cast. A hidden gem.
