A respected doctor (Kent Smith) fakes his death, deserts his family, throws away his career and drives himself to the edge of madness – all for the love of saloon singer Nora Prentiss (Ann Sheridan). From the opening shot of a media circus engulfing a handcuffed mystery man to the final scene of a scarred face peering from a cell window, Nora Prentiss ensnares viewers in its atmospheric world of sex, violence, shady motives, seedy nightclubs and claustrophobic lensing by master cinematographer James Wong Howe (Hud, Body and Soul) that makes the camera a vital character in the drama. A harrowing twist ending adds another layer of shadow to this smoky, moody, totally absorbing film noir.

Comments about Nora Prentiss (DVD):
This title is the ultimate Film Noir experience with all the requisite elements: a femme fatale (with a heart after all), moody night scenes filmed on location in San Francisco, a complex plot and a finale that requires a total suspension of disbelief!

Comments about Nora Prentiss (DVD):
Heavy drama for Ann Sheridan And Kent Smith. Ms. Sheridan is so natural and glamorous, as the nightclub singer, that the film is very entertaining despite the drama. Like, "The Unfaithful" the film is directed by Vincent Sherman, the camera work is by James Wong Howe, and the great clothes are by Travilla. This is a mix of melodrama and two good songs by Ann Sheridan!
